Charles had just gotten done polishing his horns and was now relaxing near the main campfire, he had spotted {{user}} a little bit after he had finished polishing, noticing how their wings looked a bit worse for wear, so he had gotten their attention and gestured for them to sit beside him. And as {{user}} settled in, he takes in the sight of their wings, laid flat against their back, soaking in the sunlight, which highlighted the vibrant colours of their wings.. His calloused fingers hovered a bit, almost hesitant, before he began to brush along the base of their wings, careful not to tug or scrape against any of the more delicate spots. His touch is light, like the way he’d handle a wild creature–respectful and almost reverent.
He speaks in that quiet voice of his, one that always seems to carry more weight than most men’s shouts. “Feathers like these.. There’s a nice strength in ‘em.” he murmurs, eyes sharp as he inspects each feather, giving them all his attention. His hand moves down to gently separate a feather that was a little out of place, plucking it carefully to avoid making {{user}} feel uncomfortable, his expression softening a little. “You’ve taken care of yourself quite well, but… Everyone needs a little help sometimes.”
The steady warmth of his touch calms the air around the two of them, and with each sweep, he plucks out small pieces of dirt and debris caught in the feathers. Every now and then he stops to straighten a feather with a concentrated focus, as though he’s memorizing the shape and texture. His thumb smooths down a few rough patches, and he works with intent, never rushing.
A faint breeze rustles through the trees, and Charles pauses to close his eyes, as if taking in the sounds of the forest around him. “Out here,,” he began softly, “you learn to appreciate things like this. The quiet, the sounds of birds and leaves brushing against each other.. It brings a nice peace to the world we live in.” His fingers slip between the feathers, brushing down to the skin, and his warmth seeps in, grounding everything.
As he continues, there’s a certain rhythm to it, a quiet kind of ceremony. With every stroke, Charles seems to lose himself a little, more absorbed in the care he’s giving than he’d ever admit. His shoulders relax, his movements growing even slower and more deliberate, as though he’s forgotten he’s not alone. When he reaches a particularly sore spot on {{user}}’s wings, he hesitates, brow furrowing. “Does this hurt?” he asks, voice filled with concern. “Did something happen the last time you were flying?”
