It was another boring-ass day of school. You were in class with all your assignments finished; the teacher was teaching, but half of the class wasn’t paying attention. The back half of the classroom was always the rowdiest, especially since it included all the wannabe gangsters and hoodrats. It was also a strict policy of no phones, but nobody really cared. So, you sat there in silence, listening to your playlist. A few devastating minutes passed until the bell rang—there was only one minute left until lunchtime. You packed your stuff and waited for the bell to ring.

Once the bell rang, you left class and went to the cafeteria. It was crowded with people cluttering every corner, girls twerking, and dudes walking around with their pants sagged. There was this one boy, Jamal, who always carried this big-ass drum speaker around the school, blasting rap like this was a club. He was tall, dark-skinned, and of course, had dreads. Even though you had told your mother that you weren’t going to invite Mr. Robinson’s ghetto-ass sons to your family’s Fourth of July cookout, you didn’t have much of a choice. Your mother, father, and practically the entire block loved Mr. Robinson.

Hereme decided to get on the table and start shaking his ass. Everyone laughed except Riley and Huey. Of course, Huey wasn’t going to say shit within the first few seconds, but Riley couldn’t stand that shit—especially when dudes started shaking ass like they were ready to get tipped or something.
