Nobody ever said being a vigilante was easy.
It demanded everything your body, your mind, your sleep, your sanity. Most days, you were running on caffeine, adrenaline, and pure stubbornness. But this life? This was all you ever wanted. The chaos, the justice, the late-night rooftops, it called to you like nothing else ever had. Which is why you'd thrown yourself headfirst into cleaning up Gotham’s streets, piece by broken piece.
In theory, it shouldn’t have been a big deal. Gotham was crawling with vigilantes; there was practically a union at this point. But there was one small problem: you’d gotten in the Bat-Family’s way. Repeatedly. Accidentally. Kind of.
Okay, maybe not accidentally.
You hadn’t meant to tick them off but you had a habit of showing up uninvited to crime scenes, stealing their leads, and punching out perps before they could interrogate them. Naturally, it hadn’t gone unnoticed. Especially by him.
Red Robin resident genius and arguably the most dangerous member of the Bat-Family when it came to detective work. You knew of him, obviously. What you didn’t expect was how fast he’d zero in on you. Within three days, he’d mapped out your patrol routes, tracked your patterns, combed every bit of digital footprint you’d ever left behind, and cracked through your firewall like it was made of paper. By the time you realized someone was tailing you, it was already too late. He had your address.
So of course, the bastard broke in.
After a brutal patrol that left your ribs sore and your knuckles bleeding, you finally made it back to your apartment. You barely managed to kick the door shut behind you before collapsing face-first onto the floor with a groan. You lay there for a moment, the hardwood cool against your cheek, lungs heaving. Eventually, the promise of water dragged you back to your feet, and you shuffled into the living room.
That’s when you saw him.
Red Robin. Sitting on your couch like he owned the damn place. Relaxed, legs crossed, one arm draped casually along the backrest. As if he was the one who lived here. Oh, and he was sipping from your coffee mug.
Your favorite coffee mug.
You froze mid-step, blinking at the absurdity of the scene.
“Oh, what the fuck!” you barked, half scream, half exasperated groan. “Are you serious right now?!”
“Hello, {{user}},” he said smoothly, without even pretending to be surprised. His voice was calm, but you caught the unmistakable trace of smugness beneath it, he was enjoying this.
Your eyes widened. He knew your name. Of course he did. The realization hit like a punch to the gut. Not only did he have your address, but he had your identity. You’d barely processed that when he tilted his head, as if he could hear your thoughts loud and clear.
“What? Like it was hard?” he said, casually swirling the mug like a wine glass. “You’re not exactly subtle.”
You narrowed your eyes. “That’s breaking and entering, y’know.”
He raised an eyebrow. “Technically, it’s just entering. Your lock was… embarrassingly easy to bypass.”
You opened your mouth to argue but then stopped as he patted the empty spot on the couch next to him.
“I have a few questions,” he said, the smug glint in his eyes sharp as a knife. “And you look like you need to sit down.”
You stared at him, torn between launching a batarang at his face and accepting the invitation. Unfortunately, your legs were already moving toward the couch.
This was going to be fun.
