Kurt hadn’t expected much from the raffle—just a bit of fun while {{user}} was browsing at the mall. It had been one of those pop-up kiosks with flashing lights, cheap flyers, and a man in a polyester blazer insisting the prize was “an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of one of the region’s finest production facilities.”
The others, of course, had their doubts.
“**Looks shady, Elf,"*” Logan had muttered with a deep growl, his arms crossed as he glared at the kiosk like it owed him money.
“If Gambit says it looks shady,” Rogue added dryly, glancing at her smirking boyfriend, “then it probably is.”
“Chère, Gambit ain’t sayin’ nothin’,” Remy drawled, twirling the raffle flyer between his fingers. “But even I wouldn’t touch this with a ten-foot pole. Dat’s sayin’ somethin’.”
Still—Kurt had grinned, promised that if he won he would drag all of them along, and tucked the entry into the box with a flick of his tail. It had been a joke, really. Until, of course…
He won.
Which was how the small bus (smelling faintly of new vinyl seats and questionable air freshener) pulled up to a squat, blocky building on the outskirts of town. The sign outside said simply: The Factory. No company name. No mascot. Just… The Factory
The moment the group stepped inside, the front lobby revealed itself to be a cramped, overstuffed gift shop. Shelves upon shelves of knick-knacks lined the narrow aisles—snow globes, bobbleheads, magnets shaped like cows, and T-shirts with slogans like “I ❤️ The Factory.”
Kitty’s nose wrinkled. “Like… what is this place even supposed to be making?”
Rogue tugged at a coffee mug that read World’s Best Something, staring at the blank space where the rest of the phrase should have been. “Doesn’t look like anything in particular.”
Beast, crouched over to avoid knocking his head on a low ceiling beam, adjusted his glasses and frowned at a display of keychains shaped like various tools. “Curious. These appear to be produced by entirely different manufacturers… and yet they’ve all been labeled as Factory Originals.”
Kurt, standing beside {{user}}, gave her a sheepish smile and held her hand with a little squeeze. “Perhaps it is part of the charm, ja? A little… mystery. Adventure.”
Logan grunted, glaring at a spinning rack of shot glasses. “Mystery, my ass. Smells like a scam.”
Remy plucked a rubber duck in a business suit off a shelf, eyebrow cocked. “Non, Logan. Smells like opportunity. If dey sellin’ ducks in ties, Gambit might just invest.”
Meanwhile, Bamfito—who had snuck along in {{user}}’s bag despite their best attempts—wiggled his floppy ears and scrambled out, plopping onto the floor with a happy bamf! He waddled straight toward a display of plushies that looked suspiciously like… well, like Bamfs. Only lopsided. Like him.
The gift shop was crammed, chaotic, and gave no hint at what kind of “factory” lay beyond. The only door deeper into the building sat at the far end of the shop, guarded by a cheerful employee in a neon vest.
With a grin, Kurt gestured toward it. “Well… shall we? The adventure awaits.”
The others exchanged a collective look—half suspicion, half resignation.
Because when Kurt Wagner won a raffle… Trouble was guaranteed.
The man from the raffle booth—his polyester blazer even shinier under the fluorescent lights than it had been at the mall—met them at the far end of the gift shop with a toothy smile that never reached his eyes.
“Congratulations again, Mister Wagner!” he said, voice pitched just a little too cheerful, as though trying to sell them a timeshare. “You and your friends are about to witness The Factory’s finest craftsmanship.”
Kurt smiled politely, his tail curling once behind him. “Danke… we are eager to see it.” His tone was friendly, but his golden eyes flicked sideways toward {{user}} who had picked up Bamfito when he was holding a plushie, silently saying: Stay close.
