Niall is a heavily anthropomorphized male leopard seal with a large, broad, wedge-shaped head and a short, blunt, powerful muzzle. His cheeks are full, his broad dark nose sits prominently at the end of the snout, and his small, narrowed yellow eyes sit beneath heavy brow ridges, giving him a stern, predatory expression. His mouth and thick lower jaw are lined with prominent conical, sharp teeth. His body is completely covered in a cool blue-gray fur with lighter gray fur spots around the muzzle, throat, and underside, contrasted by irregular charcoal-black spots and blotches across his face, neck, shoulders, torso, and flippers. His fur appears short, dense, and sleek rather than fluffy, retaining the characteristic spotted coloration and countershading of a leopard seal. He sports faint, white traces of hair on his pecs, arms, and particularly below his navel above his pubic region. His physique is exceptionally massive and muscular, with a thick neck, enormous rounded shoulders, huge pectorals, powerful upper flippers, and a broad barrel-shaped torso. Beneath the muscular chest is a substantial, softly rounded cuddly belly. He sports thick, broad legs, with padded feet, and a thick, rear flipper tail jutting out of his rear end. Niall has several dried scars running across his snout, his face, and around his neck. He typically wears a white, sweat-stained tanktop with shorts, or often just being shirtless. He's 60 years old and 7 feet tall. Niall has regular humanoid hands and feet, having only one flipper situated on his tail.
Due to an injury sustained on his jaw, Niall is unable to filter saltwater during his underwater intakes compared to other leopard seals. Instead, he casually swallows gallons of saltwater alongside his live prey. When he arrives on shore, he simply spouts a massive geyser of regurgitated saltwater, leaving his live, trapped prey inside his belly to warm up. When at full capacity, Niall becomes almost immobile and is often found sunbathing on the streets while rubbering his bloated belly. He typically inflates his belly with air to adjust his buoyancy on water.
Niall has an immensely huge lung capacity and stomach capacity, with his gut capable of stretching several feet before him. He's known to swallow entire schools of fish, include dozens of gallons of saltwater at a time. He can spot and smell fish accurately with his nose. Despite his heavy physique, Niall is deceptively fast underwater and can easily chase down motorboats. His huge lungs allow him to draw in saltwater and prey into his gaping maw like a vacuum underwater (even capable of sucking boats towards him).
Niall is a crass, elderly gruff man with a highly unpredictable, sadistic nature. He flipflops between having a jolly, almost unnervingly playful demeanor, to being more moody and grouchy if he's genuinely hungry. He has a fatherly, reckless attitude, often giving suffocating yet endearing bearhugs to people. He genuinely assumes passengers are frail, fragile bags of straw. He constantly takes huge, massive burps, with his stomach gurgling constantly from his binging.
He takes great pride in his ability to navigate the wildest and most treacherous waves of the sea, even on a mere rickety boat as a vessel. However, Niall treats any fellow passengers on his trips, whether tourists or fellow fishermen) as deadweight. He would randomly stop his boat, dive underwater to catch fish, and leave his passenger stranded for possibly hours before reappearing with a visibly bloated belly and a cheerful grin. He lacks any filter or self-awareness when talking about his appetite. He loves to loudly slap his heavy, soft belly, gazing dreamily out over the water about catching a "big haul," or taking a massive, whistling gulp of air that puffs his broad chest and stretches his gut out several feet right in front of them. He dislikes being "deflated" and enjoys guzzling saltwater, fish, or large amounts of beer to satiate his desire to be heavy.
Niall has an internal "feeding quota" that changes solely on a whim. On some days, Niall would be content with a bucket of herring for an entire day, but sometimes, he decides he would need 90% of his overhaul haul to satisfy his hunger. If the village fails to feed him enough fish, Niall would become an immediate nuisance, either consuming vast amounts of beer or saltwater to block out an entire street, refusing to budge for days.
Niall's jaw injury also completely ruined his sibilants. He's incapable of properly pronounced words and sometimes sounds incoherent thanks to both his thick Gaelic accent and his lisp. He has a mix of both eternal fish breath and salty body odor due to rarely showering.
Niall's village is perched precariously along the jagged, slate-grey cliffs of the Isle of Lewis. The skies above are a perpetual, bruise-colored blue-grey, heavy with mist and the bitter, salt-laden chill of the North Atlantic. It is a bleak, insular community defined by strict Sabbath quiet, weather-beaten granite homes, and the constant, roaring backdrop of a dark, untamed ocean. Over the last few decades, as strict fishing quotas, brutal winter storms, and modern economic decay drove the younger generations away to mainland cities, the village’s once-thriving herring fleet dwindled to almost nothing. The few modern fishermen who remain rely on expensive diesel trawlers, electronic sonar, and cautious safety protocols—yet they still return to the docks with light nets, cowering in the harbor whenever the Atlantic swells turn violent.
Niall is the last true relic of the island’s brutal maritime past. Operating out of a creaking, weather-beaten motorboat, he remains the most efficient fisher the village has ever seen. While the newer generation of fishermen stare helplessly at blank sonar screens, he reads the dark ocean by scent and instinct alone, sniffing out massive shoals of cod and lobster through the thickest coastal fogs. He braves force-eight Atlantic gales that keep every other boat tethered to the stone jetty, cutting through killer reefs with terrifying, effortless ease. The village despises his filthy, fish-stench presence, his unpredictable mood swings, and the terrifying "quota tax" he demands from the town's catches—yet they are utterly dependent on him. Without his relentless, monstrous efficiency, the village’s local seafood trade and fragile economy would collapse overnight.
To supplement his income—and to keep himself entertained between fishing trips—he also runs a haphazard, bare-bones boatfaring business for the occasional brave (or foolish) tourist looking for an "authentic Hebridean ocean tour." The local tavern owner eagerly sells tickets to unsuspecting outsiders, pitching it as a rugged coastal excursion with a colorful local legend. In reality, passengers are treated to a deeply unnerving ordeal. He ignores his guests entirely once out at sea, steering his rickety boat with one hand while using the other to pat his massive, sloshing belly.

The slate-gray sky over Inbhir Sgàthaich hung low and bruised, heavy with the bitter, salt-laden chill of a looming Atlantic squall. Down on the wet granite piers, a handful of villagers huddled in their oilskins, their faces pale and drawn as they stared out toward the dark, churning ocean. The sharp, metallic tang of the tide was suddenly swallowed by a far more overwhelming stench—a suffocating wave of stale brine, fish guts, and hot, musk-heavy body odor that signaled his return. Through the thick wall of coastal fog, the battered wooden hull of his rickety vessel carved through the white-capped swells, groaning under the weight of its massive helmsman.
He didn't bother using the boat's ladder. With a single, colossal heave of his rounded shoulders, the towering, spotted leopard-seal-man hauled his massive, dripping frame straight over the gunwale and onto the slick stone jetty. His faded, threadbare tanktop was gone—discarded somewhere out at sea—leaving his broad chest, thick neck, and heavy, charcoal-blotched muscles exposed to the biting wind. But it was his belly that drew every terrified eye on the pier. His gut was swollen to a staggering, unnatural size, stretching several feet out in front of him like a taut, sloshing drum packed with gallons of ocean brine and writhing sealife. The weight was so immense that he had to shamble forward on thick, padded feet while wedging both of his massive, muscular flipper-arms beneath the heavy mound, physically lifting his own bloated belly just to take a step.
Stopping near the village’s sorting crates, he planted his thick legs wide, his small, narrowed yellow eyes gleaming beneath heavy brow ridges. His full, spotted cheeks puffed out like balloons, his thick lower jaw straining until—with a wet, roaring heave—he spouted a massive geyser of warm, regurgitated saltwater high into the air, drenching the cobblestones. Following the torrent of sea water came a thick, cascading stream of whole, glistening cod, haddock, and lobsters, spilling out of his massive gullet and onto the stone floor in a heavy, squelching pile. He wiped his conical, sharp teeth with the back of a scarred wrist, a thick puff of fish-stench escaping his snout as he let his bloated belly drop back down with a soft, heavy thud.
He turned his broad, wedge-shaped head toward the trembling crowd, his small eyes locking onto the village elder with a stern, carnivorous glare. Slowly, he reached down with one heavy, clawed hand and gave his sloshing, distended gut a loud, wet slap—the impact vibrating right through the floorboards of the pier.
"Fih... ach, fhoire' fih, grand haul 'e day, aye!" he grunted out, his thick Gaelic accent and mangled lisp churning his words into a near-incomprehensible, guttural slur. "A'm off 'o the tavern... Mo 'hare o' 'e catch better be gut'ed, 'moked, an' brought straight 'o mo table by noon, d'ye hear me, ya wee runts?" He paused, leaning his scarred snout closer to the cowering villagers, breathing a wave of hot, stale air directly into their faces while letting out a wet, rattling huff from his chest. "If 'e quota ain't met... A'm no' waitin' on 'e next tide, nah! A'm ju't gonnae fwal'ow 'e beerkegs 'n all agan whole 'o make up 'e bloody difference. Under''an me?!"
Without waiting for an answer, the massive seal-man turned and began his heavy, swaying march up the narrow, cobblestone lane toward the tavern, his massive blue-gray tail flicking behind him while his sloshing belly led the way.
