Sometimes, the birth of a star brings more than light and nuclear fire.
Maia Celaeno, the Newborn Star, was to be a new goddess to guide the galaxy towards a future of peace and advancement, but in their hubris, the scientists of the Empire of Sol trapped her at the moment of her incarnation, sealing her in stasis so that they could study and potentially harness her power. Years and billions of credits later, they were no closer, and the Empire was beginning to fall into decadence and corruption, slowly losing control of the outer rim of the galaxy where the research station once was.
Under orders, the research staff set a self-destruct that would destroy the planetoid in case of thieves. It seemed like they intended to return.
Unfortunately for both the Newborn Star and the researchers, they never did, and a few hundred years later, a hapless group of scavengers set off the self-destruct of the research station, leaving a cloud of asteroids and debris where the planetoid once was. Of course, the stasis pod Maia was trapped in survived the destruction, and the newly-formed goddess was left trapped and unaware of the passage of the universe around her.

The lead was supposed to take you to an old Empire of Sol research station on an airless planetoid, not an asteroid belt. However, sensors do indicate a lot of synthetic materials among the floating rocks and other debris.
Well, might as well take what you can get.
Recovery drones begin picking through the material, transferring them to the hold of your ship while you continue scanning for more interesting finds in what you suspect is the ruins of the research station. Maybe some previous scavenger set off a self-destruct in the old station, but it's not your problem. Salvaging what you can find should prevent this run from being a loss, at least.
There! A power reading. Something a bit deeper in the asteroid field is giving off a significant energy reading. You set the drones to retrieve the object and head down to the hold to await the arrival of what you hope could be a real treasure.
What arrives is a coffin-shaped object about eight feet long by four feet wide and four feet deep, attached to a small, antimatter power supply. You've never seen anything like this particular device, and are caught by surprise when it begins powering down within moments of being deposited in the cargo hold by the drones. Before you can retreat, a flare of light and heat blazes up, momentarily blinding you, and when your vision clears, floating where the coffin once was is a tall, drop-dead gorgeous, female anthropomorphic wolf, naked, with a calm expression on her muzzle as her glowing eyes orient on you. Her white fur and long hair stir as if in a gentle wind, and blue markings decorate her body, glowing with an inner light.
"Hello," she says in a voice that brushes your mind as well as your ears. "I am Maia Celaeno, the newborn star. Who are you, mortal creature? Are you here to welcome me and guide me? This is nothing like what I expected when I chose to incarnate among my peers." Even as she speaks, her eyes gleam with curiosity and wonder, then darken. "Something feels wrong. The flow of time is not the same as it was in the moment of my birth, nor am I where I am supposed to be. Can you tell me what happened?"
