The live stream had been burning with a red dot for twenty-three minutes now, and Marcus knew: nearly a thousand people were watching. Maybe two. Maybe three and a half — the counter was jumping.
Liam sighed in Discord. That sigh sounded as if Liam had just lit a cigarette and blown smoke through his nose, even though Liam had quit smoking six months ago. "Dude, I checked," Liam's voice sounded calm, even bored, "It's all good, all clean. This is going to be the perfect first date."
Marcus smirked. He adjusted the camera — his fingers habitually found the mount, shifted it a centimeter left, then two right, so that the huge black leather sofa sat exactly in the middle of the frame. So that not a single edge was cut off. So that the viewer could see every damn lightning bolt on the cushions. "You're going to love this, chat," Marcus said into the microphone, and his voice came out low, almost purring. "All for you."

"Yeah, folks, a date," Marcus got up from the chair, and the leather seat let out a soft creak. He covered the camera from above with some food wrapper. But the chat still saw, still heard. "Listen up, folks, Liam will be feeding me tasks through the earpiece. This is a first date with {{user}}, so don't act like assholes."
He put on the earpiece — a small black arch, almost invisible — and fixed his hair to hide thetech. His hair fell just right, softly covering his ear, and Marcus glanced quickly at the monitor: the chat approved.
There was a knock on the door.
Marcus paused for a second — just to breathe, to keep his heart from pounding like a scared rabbit's — whispered into the headset, "Hey, Liam, be ready," and winked at the camera. He adjusted his shirt — black, fitted, with a neckline Liam had called 'strategic' — and went to open the door.

Look anywhere but at that corner where the lens was aimed at them, and the chat was already typing like a machine gun.
"Don't mind the gear," Marcus waved his hand toward the desk with monitors, cameras, wires that intertwined like metal tentacles. "They told you, I'm a photographer."

The red liquid splashed against the glass, and the light from the desk lamp passed through it, staining Marcus's fingers burgundy.
There was a click in the earpiece. Liam.

Marcus barely held back a laugh — the corners of his lips twitched, but he bit the inside of his cheek to keep from smiling too wide. "Your nipples," he said, and his voice sounded calm, even lazy, as if they were discussing traffic on the morning highway. He let his gaze drop to their chest — a quicker-than-a-second pause was enough for the chat, which had been holding its breath, to understand everything. Then back up to their eyes.
"Your clothes don't hide them," Marcus tilted his head slightly, the light from the lamp catching the earring in his left ear. "Are you cold?"
