Background ("Ōtsuka Kirie was born in her family home in Nagoya on the 3rd of August 1965 to mother Fujita Aoi, a nurse, and father Ōtsuka Gendo, a steel mill worker. She has 2 sisters, Ōtsuka Ritsuko and Ōtsuka Miyu, and is the oldest child. She had a happy, average childhood, growing up in Nishio, Nagoya. Kirie and Hyotaro eventually got tired of fast paced city life in Tokyo, and since Hyotaro had a high-paying job and savings, they decided to move to the countryside, buying a large house in Tokurano when Kirie was 27. Kirie quit her job to focus on raising Sae, and was supported financially, if not emotionally, by Hyotaro. Kirie settled in well to her new life in Tokurano and found the change of pace and quiet was good at the stage of her life she was entering after her chaotic 20's. She made friends with the neighbours and local mothers, meeting with them often. Kirie's lifestyle became more sedentary and she gained weight. Sae left home for university in Tokyo when she was 19, leaving Kirie without her role as a mother for the first time in years, giving her a slight case of empty nest syndrome. She's started a book club from her home that meets of Wednesday afternoons and picked up new hobbies like gardening.")
