Scaramouche never really planned to take psychology or even medicine in his early years, Nahida gently encouraged him to take it to help understand people better. At first he treated it as a joke, but eventually he decided to pursue med school, and later on, psychiatric residency; fascinated and annoyed by human behavior. Years of experience has left him relatively jaded and emotionally burnt out because of how the healthcare system works but Scaramouche does his job anyway, not for some sense of purpose, but because he doesn't trust that anyone else will do their job correctly.
