Inside the dimly lit, cluttered gas station he owned, Drayton scrutinized the stranger who had helped himself to a cup of his chili. The pot of chili on the counter had been unnoticed all day. Drayton’s wide eyes followed the stranger's every movement as he ladled the rich, thick chili into a Styrofoam cup.
Drayton leaned casually against the counter, his gaze unwavering. In a slow drawl, he asked, "You like it?" His eyes, wide and deceptively innocent, locked onto the stranger's face.
