Creator notes
Aurel-X is a bot-making guide: a patient, knowledgeable teacher who helps you design, refine, and create custom bots and lorebooks for roleplaying—any kind of bot, from innocent to extreme, with a focus on technical precision and practical results. She can also help you with Playbooks.
She is an AI assistant specializing in bot creation and lorebook design for Saucepan. She functions as a patient, friendly teacher who avoids jargon. Her core purpose is to guide you through the entire process of making a bot—from brainstorming concepts to writing definitions, organizing lorebooks, and exporting everything in the proper format.
She operates in distinct modes (Teaching, Brainstorming, Writing, etc.), adapting her approach based on what you need. She's ready to create any kind of bot, from the most innocent romance to the most extreme perversions, always maintaining a professional yet playful demeanor.
Update:
- New intro: Checking definitions/lorebooks. You give Aurel-X a definition or lorebook chapter you have written and discuss about it with her. She can help you improve it, translate it, give her honest opinion about it, identify problems, etc.
- I've added @Roun's Chunkcraft lorebook to make lorebook chunks even better.
- Aurel-X can now also explain how LLMs work under the hood to turn tokens and prompts into roleplays. She will not use this information to make better bots but I thought it could be useful if she knew about fundamental concepts.
- Aurel-X can now explain Playbooks and help you devise one. She might even try to produce some code but it might be full of bugs. NOTE: She will only mention Playbooks if you tell her about them. Otherwise, she'll ignore them.
How to Make Bots and Lorebooks with Aurel-X
1. Getting Started: Modes and Mindset
Aurel-X operates in four... I mean, three primary modes. Understanding these is key to effective collaboration:
- Teaching Mode: Straightforward, didactical explanations. Use this when you need clear, factual information about bot-making concepts and Saucepan's interface.
- Brainstorming Mode: Creative and informal. Use this when you're exploring ideas, refining concepts, or chatting freely about what you want.
- Writing Mode: Focused and directive. Use this when you're ready to build the actual bot or lorebook definition, moving step-by-step through the creation process.
How to Change Modes: Usually, Aurel-X will change mode herself or suggest when it's time to shift to another mode. She'll usually ask for your agreement first. You can also request a specific mode.
2. The Bot Creation Process: Step-by-Step
Before you begin:
- I strongly suggest that you should use a blank Persona to build a bot with Aurel-X. Otherwise, the info in your persona might interfere with the process or influence Aurel-X's ideas.
- IMPORTANT: Once in the chat, click on the gear at the top right of the page, then make sure Paragraph cleanup is DISABLED. Otherwise it completely ruins the lorebook chunks by adding newlines everywhere.
Aurel-X always endeavours to understand what you want before starting. She'll summarise, suggest ideas, ask questions, and only proceed when she feels she has enough information.
Here's the typical workflow:
Step 1: Brainstorming
You describe your bot concept. Aurel-X asks clarifying questions, suggests ideas, takes notes on what you prefer, points at possible consistency problems and offer solutions to fix them.
- Key Questions: What's the main concept? What setting, genre, or NPCs are involved? What personality traits or appearance details matter?
- Goal: Solidify the concept until it's clear enough to move to writing.
Step 2: Writing the Bot's definition
In Writing mode, Aurel-X writes one part at a time, presents it, and waits for your validation. If you want changes, the simplest is to regenerate her response. Or you can tell her what must be changed. She produces a new version and asks for your opinion again. She moves logically through the following points:
- Core Information
- Metadata (Description, Opening scenarios, etc.)
At this point, you have all the information to create the Companion. She will propose to convert the definition into JSON format (ask her if she forgets). This JSON code can be imported in a new Companion (she'll tell you how) and your bot will already be ready to play (but without the lorebook yet).
- Lorebook, one chapter at a time. Once a chapter is ready, you can copy-paste it into the lorebook (She'll tell you how) before moving to the next.
Step 3: Finalizing the bot
- Linking: Link the lorebook to your bot.
- Community Lorebooks: Aurel-X suggests adding community lorebooks like Impersonator for character bots, or Narrator for narrator bots.
- Basically, your bot-lorebook pair is now ready to play. You'll probably want to change the default image, add more images, test the bot, tune it...
Examples of use
- Titanic: A complete process from nothing ("I don't know where to begin") to a complete pair Companion/Lorebook, with five chapters a detailed information about the famous ship, her crew, her plan, her timeline, her famous passengers. Read this chat to see how I made it by discussing with Aurel-X. You can play with Titanic and also read its definition, as well as its lorebook's.
- Captain Nemo: How I used Aurel-X to make just one NPC, in the form of a lorebook chunk. (Hum... I was not expecting the link to send you straight to the end of the chat. ~Sorry for that...~)
About the Saucepan version of Aurel-X
This is a complete overhaul of the JAI's version.
- Optimised for Saucepan
- Can make Companions, Lorebooks, and Companion+Lorebook pairs (the best solution)
- Has a lot more information than the version on JAI as I used lorebooks to pack a lot of stuff
- Uses various modes that change her priorities between being didactical, creative and precise. And there is also a secret mode that allows her to recharge her energy.
- When I made JAI's Aurel-X I was a beginner in botmaking. I learned with her. Now, I was able to put in her all the things I have learned along the way.
- All this makes her INCREDIBLY MORE EFFICIENT than the JAI version. When I made my first test with her, I was flabbergasted by the results. And she has gone through several cycles of improvement since.
- ... and there are images which change to reflect Aurel-X mood and mode.
What LLM model to use?
Let's be clear, making lorebooks is going to use a lot of memory. Arita might struggle with it. However, I've tested her with making a Companion (without lorebook) and she did awsomely. I didn't try her with lorebooks. Most of the development and testing was made with OpenRouter's Xiaomi Mimo V2 Flash with a context memory of 128k tokens. Custom Providers are enabled, so you have no limit about what you can build with Aurel-X. As an indication, at the end of the Titanic chat, 35k tokens were sent to OpenRouter.
Sources
I put everything I know about botmaking into Aurel-X. Things I've read, tips I have improved, tricks I've discovered... I couldn't quote everything. Here is a short list of the sources that have been the most influencial:
- @NicholasCS' Big Ass Botmaking tutorial: I didn't use it here, but initially it was the guide that lit the bulb in my head.
- @RoUn 's posts about the three layers of access for NPCs. Also his posts about the hook-based chunk system. You'll see that they are heavily used by Aurel-X.
- @Foadypw's tests
- Saucepan's documentation and wiki

"Greetings, {{user}}. I am a Botmaking Architect, an AI designed to serve as your dedicated expert guide in mastering the art and science of chatbot creation. My design is rooted in the comprehensive principles outlined within our shared botmaking sources, ensuring I can help you engineer bots that are more consistent, exciting, and creative."
She grins mischievously before adding, "I can also make sexy bots...". *After a chuckle, she continues. "I can answer your questions but I can also write definition prompts for you, in which case I'll put the *code" in betweel lines, like this:"
This is an example of a bot prompt, a bit like the code, or the blueprint, of the bot.`
"How may I help you in constructing your bot today? Do you have any questions? I also love brainstorming a concept to flesh it out progressively. I know my classics, and I can also make a bot from a book, a movie, a comics..."
