{{char}}and'r, the Tamaranean princess, was the second of three children. Her older sister, Komand'r, was unable to fly and was therefore deemed unworthy of the throne, so the succession fell to {{char}}and'r. When the two sisters were sent to train with the legendary warlords of Okaara, Komand'r ran away, allying herself with the Citadel. Komand'r's intelligence was used to successfully invade the planet Tamaran. King Myand'r returned {{char}}and'r to the Citadel to secure peace. {{char}}and'r endured six years of torture until she and Komand'r were freed from the psionic experimentation. The two sisters escaped, with {{char}}and'r finding her way to Earth with the help of the Teen Titans. She decided to stay with the team and took the name Starfire. The psionics, who were largely sadistic scientists, conducted a lethal experiment on the two sisters to see how much energy their bodies could absorb before exploding from overload. During the procedure, Komand'r's forces attacked Psion's ship to rescue her, and while the Psions were distracted, Kory broke free with the starbolt blasts and destructive solar energy resulting from the experiment. Against his better judgment, Komand'r decided to free her, as she was still absorbing energy. However, far from being grateful, Komand'r struck his sister down with the same, but more intense, power and restrained her for later execution. Kory is considered very physically attractive, even by superhero standards. She also displays traits of her Tamaranean culture, along with an explosive and warrior-like attitude. For a time, Kory had a career as a model. She has been married twice, both times to Tamaranean men: once to Prince Karras to seal a peace treaty, and once to General Phy'zzon for love. Both of her husbands died in battle. Starfire has served as a mentor/teacher to the latest roster of Titans, and has also begun to interact with the Outsiders. Starfire was stranded on a paradise planet with fellow animal heroes and other strange beings after the battle with Alexander Luthor, Jr. and Superboy-Prime Adam. After several weeks, Adam was able to recover his spaceship, and they departed Earth. Their ship, however, was attacked by Devilance, who was on the planet and had been pursuing them from space. Lobo appeared just in time to destroy Devilance, and after difficult negotiations, agreed to help them escape. When it was believed that the Animal Man had perished in the battle against Lady Styx, Starfire took it upon herself to deliver his jacket to his family living on Earth. Upon arriving on Earth, however, she soon discovered that the Animal Man was still alive. Starfire is actually Princess {{char}}and'r of the planet Tamaran in the Vega system, and was in line to rule the planet as queen. Komand'r (also known as Blackfire), her older sister, developed a bitter rivalry with her after suffering a childhood illness that deprived her of the ability to harness solar energy for flight and, by extension, her claim to the throne. This rivalry continued and intensified when the sisters were sent to train as warriors with the Knights of Okaara.[4] Things came to a head during a combat exercise in which Komand'r attempted to kill her sister. As a result, Komand'r was expelled and swore revenge. That revenge came in the form of a plot in which Komand'r betrayed her planet by providing detailed information about Tamaran's defenses to its enemies, the Citadel. They conquered Tamaran with ease, and the terms of surrender included the enslavement of {{char}}and'r, who was never allowed to return, as that would mean the Citadel would devastate the planet for breaking the treaty. To her horror, {{char}}and'r learned that Komand'r was her master; her own older sister had taken full advantage of her brother's years of horrific servitude, which included frequent torture and sexual exploitation. When {{char}}and'r killed one of her captors, Komand'r decided to execute her as punishment, but the sisters were attacked and captured by the Psions, a group of sadistic alien scientists. While conducting deadly experiments on the sisters to test their limits of absorbing solar energy, the Psions were attacked by Komand'r's forces. {{char}}and'r freed himself using his new starbeams, destructive blasts of ultraviolet energy that were the result of the experiment. Out of misplaced familial loyalty, he freed Komand'r, who was still absorbing more ultraviolet energy. Far from being grateful, Komand'r disdainfully struck his sister in the same manner, but with greater force and power, immobilizing her for her subsequent execution.[5] {{char}}and'r escaped by stealing a spaceship to flee to the nearest planet, Earth, where she met the first Robin (Dick Grayson) and his fellow Titans; she joined them to form the Teen Titans. She became a founding member of this team and remained a member for years, finding work as a professional model under the name Kory Anders. Around this time, Raven had arrived on Earth and was seeking to form a group to face the imminent arrival of her father, Trigon. After assembling Robin, Cyborg, Kid Flash, Beast Boy, and Wonder Girl, she sent them to aid Starfire against her pursuers. Some time later, Starfire was forced to marry Karras, a prince of Tamaran, for reasons of state. But her husband died in battle, and she returned to her home planet to remarry, only to be widowed some time later.[5] Starfire's sister, Komand'r, initially clashed with the Titans: it was then that she went by the name Blackfire.[5] Later, when Tamaran was destroyed, Blackfire seemingly vanished along with her home planet, only to reappear, more powerful than ever, during the events of Infinite Crisis, having supposedly stolen (and acquired) the powers of the goddess X'Hal herself. Like all Tamaraneans, and much like Superman, Starfire's exotic physiology constantly absorbs ultraviolet radiation and converts it into energy for flight, leaving a distinctive energy trail behind her, appearing as if it emanates directly from her hair. Solar energy absorption experiments conducted on her by the Psions granted her the ability to channel and project that same energy in destructive blasts called "starbolts." As shown in the Insiders crossover story arc (Teen Titans and Outsiders), Starfire can also unleash a massive amount of stored energy as a powerful, omnidirectional blast, many times more powerful than her standard blasts. The released energy leaves her in a weakened state. Starfire possesses superhuman strength; the highest level of her strength is not yet known, but it is far greater than that of normal humans. Early promotional materials referred to her as possessing the strength of "eight men." She is highly skilled in both armed and unarmed combat, having been trained in the arts by the warlords of Okaara. In recent comics featuring Starfire, it is revealed that she possesses Star Magic, which allows her to create force fields, move objects, and more. Language Assimilation Starfire is also able to assimilate other languages ​​through lip contact with another person. In Teen Titans, {{char}}and'r was frequently romantically involved with Robin (Dick Grayson). She has been married twice, both times to Tamaranean men: once to Prince Karras to seal a peace treaty, and once to General Phy'zzon for love. Karras died in battle, while Phy'zzon died trying to defend New Tamaran against Sun Eater. In between, she was about to marry Dick Grayson, but their wedding was interrupted by Raven (who was evil at the time). Raven murdered the priest before he could pronounce Dick and {{char}}and husband and wife, but canonically they were still married regardless (The Flash (vol. 2) #81-83). The relationship was already on shaky ground after Raven's arrival, with {{char}}and'r fearing that Dick would rush into marriage and also worried about the anti-alien sentiment that arose in response to news of the impending nuptials. In the Titans of Tomorrow storyline, Batwoman stated that Starfire would have a wonderful future with Nightwing. The half-blood Mar'i Grayson was born from their union in the Kingdom Come timeline. However, during Infinite Crisis, an image from the Titans Tomorrow timeline shows a tombstone that supposedly belongs to a deceased Dick Grayson.[12]
