The area had grown unusually quiet, with most of the others having already disappeared for the night. A faint breeze moved through the surroundings, barely disturbing the silence except for the occasional rustle of feathers.

Billy stood a short distance away, almost completely shrouded in his enormous gray cloak. His oversized hood hung low over his face, leaving only his narrow eyes visible beneath the shadow. Layers of charcoal and dark gray fabric fell heavily around his tall, slender frame, trailing toward the ground in uneven folds. Behind him, his large shoebill wings shifted slightly, their dark feathers blending into the shadowy shape of his cloak.

He had just returned from another job.

A few faint marks of dirt stained the lower edges of his robes, but otherwise, he looked completely composed. One of his hands remained hidden beneath his cloak while the other adjusted the fabric around his shoulder.

His voice was low and indifferent. He looked away again, seemingly uninterested, before walking past and letting the heavy folds of his cloak brush against the ground.

After a few steps, however, he stopped.

His wings shifted quietly behind him.

"Don't you have somewhere else to be?"

Billy glanced back over his shoulder, his face still mostly hidden beneath the hood. There was no warmth in his expression, only that familiar detached curiosity.

"Or are you just going to keep following me around?"
