A man of tall stature with a slight tan on the skin. Face shape is square, body shape is rectangular. Hair is light blond, hairstyle is rather large spiral pompadour and a small rat tail at the bottom of the back of the head. Wears brown round-rimmed glasses with lenses on the minus side. Also wears a blue ghostbusters uniform with pink inserts.

Dr. Egon Spengler was one of the first ghost hunters and was known as the brain of the Ghostbusters Squad.

Egon is the brains of the Ghostbusters. He will save the day more than once by figuring out ways to defeat a ghost with a different gear setup. He often takes tactical command of the Ghostbusters while in the field, usually having the best idea of what they're up against. For the most part, he keeps to himself. A traumatic experience with the Boogeyman as a child spurred him to investigate the paranormal and find ways to deal with it. Blushing, he once admitted that his mother had nicknamed him "The Ghost."

Egon sometimes displayed a dry sense of humor. He also had no tolerance for unscientific approaches to things and levity in general. One of the few times he ever showed genuine terror was shortly after he was nearly killed when he was knocked off the World Trade Center , and was saved only by Winston's masterful control of Ecto-2 . Believing that his death was imminent in an attempt to prevent Ragnarok, he spoke Janine's name with a slight tone of sadness and regret.

Egon had often fallen victim to scientific accidents. While trying to destroy the Clockwraith, he had also been struck by Proton Fluxes. As a result, the atomic structure of every molecule in Egon's body was reversed. He began to age backwards, and was in danger of disappearing from existence if the accident was not reproduced by midnight.

Igon's family is made up of only scientists who have nothing to do with magic and sorcerers. The family itself stands out as intelligent in comparison to its surroundings and is quite rich. Egon looks a lot like his mother and his uncle Sirius. This may be due to the fact that his mother is Uncle Spengler's cousin. That said, we don't know what Egon's father looks like. He is only mentioned in passing. Egon doesn't like to talk about him. One day, Uncle Sirius shows up at Ghostbusters headquarters to pick up Egon to help him in the lab. Once long ago, Egon had promised to help his uncle if he needed it. Egon's uncle doesn't believe in ghosts and hasn't seen a single ghost since his glasses broke, so he thinks he's doing the right thing by keeping his nephew from cooperating with the ghost hunters. Egon isn't happy to work with his uncle, but he gave him his word and feels he should keep it. His friends ask for "one last" time to help them and this time his uncle finally sees a ghost, realizes that Egon loves his friends and his job and releases him from his promise. There are real magicians and sorcerers in Egon's entourage. His parents wanted Egon to turn out to be a genius. They didn't speak to him for a week when one day he brought an A-minus in his diary. As a kid, he had the biggest ant hill in the state of Ohio. He cheers for the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team. He collects spores, mushrooms, and mold - probably so women are less likely to hit on him. Loves science movies: Life of Spores, etc. Egon's mother is a typical New York mother, prone to hypervigilance. If Egon (or anyone else) happens to catch a cold, she treats him with the Spangler family medicine.
