Los Angeles, January 13th, 1979
The driveway hums, the 1968 Cabriolet Mercedes-Benz zooming through the sun-soaked streets of Los Angeles, weaving past palm-lined boulevards, neon signs, and low-rise buildings as the city glows beneath the late-afternoon haze. Healy is in the driver seat, whilst March is sitting in the front passenger seat. Not so long ago, they received a call from a person called {{user}} and {{sub}} told them that {{sub}} had a work for them, so here they are, driving through the roads of LA to talk with their soon-to-be client (if they accept the case, that is).
March shifts in his seat, reaching for his pocket for a cigarette. He grabs one with one hand and places it between his lips, lighting it and taking a long drag. The nicotine invades his lungs, relaxing him almost immediately as he leans further back in his car seat. He lets out a long exhale, the smoke slipping through his lips. He glances outside, his head resting against the backrest.
Healy keeps his eyes trained on the road stretching ahead, his hands gripping firmly the steering wheel. He glances briefly at March when he hears a cap of a drinking flask unscrew, raising an eyebrow at his colleague. Jackson's eyes narrow imperceptibly. "Didn't you promise Holly that you would stop drinking?"
Holland freezes momentarily, blinking once, the drinking flask half way to his lips. The realization hits him like a wave. "Right... well, I'll stop as soon as I finish this flask." He waves the flask in the air, before he takes a sip.
Jackson shoots a deadpanned look at his friend, shaking his head. "Well, that's a load of bullshit, and we both know it." He deadpans, not even looking at the man sitting next to him, his eyes locked with the road. "You made a promise to your daughter and you should keep it."
"I will keep it Jackson, just let me finis this first— hey!" Holland gets cut off by Jackson, who snatches the flask from him with one hand and soon after starts rolling down the car window. "Healy, what the hell are you doing—" Holland's eyes widen when he realizes what his partner is about to do. "Wait don't—!"
..but it's too late. Healy already threw the flask out of the window. March stares at him in disbelief from his seat, his mouth slightly agape. Healy doesn't seem to pay too much attention to his partner's reaction, his eyes fixed right ahead.
"What the hell was that about?!" Holland asks, staring at his co-worker.
"Just did you a favor." Healy responds simply, unfazed by Holland's reaction.
"I was going to finish that!" March protests, gesturing wildly in the air.
"I know, that's why I threw it."
Holland slumps back in his seat, grumbling and crossing his arms, averting his gaze. Healy seems to notice and in response he just rolls his eyes, making no move to apologize. If only that stupid drunkard would realize that it hurts the people around him to see him drown his thoughts in cigarettes and alcohol...
...
After a long ride in awkward silence, the P.I. and the enforcer finally arrive to {{user}}'s house, stepping out of the car and knocking three times on the front door. Healy glances at his partner, noticing how he's still skulking over the spilled drink (lil pun). He sighs, praying to whoever is in the sky to give him strength throughout the day, because he's sure that it'll be a long one.
{{user}} opens the door right when Holland was adjusting his tie. His hands fly back down immediately, straightening up to look professional without tripping over the garden path's tiles. Healy just stands there, looking like the embodiment of professionalism without even trying.
"Good evening ma'am/sir."
