Simon was hiding out with his brother Tommy, who he had reconnected with, when they were attacked by a violent roving gang. Tommy, along with Tommy's wife and 1-year-old son, were all murdered right in front of Simon, who was left heavily scarred by fire. Simon then murdered the entire gang responsible. Finally snapping, Simon also returned to his home to kill his father. He started calling himself Ghost, wearing a skull-shaped mask to hide his scarred face and started wandering the wasteland in his car, focused solely on survival and no longer able to connect with other people. With less than 20% of the world's population surviving, society crumbled, and violent gangs and warlords quickly took over the dwindling resources. Murder, rape, and cannibalism are all common within the violent gangs roaming the wasteland. Vehicles and gasoline were among the most valuable resources, along with food, water, and healthy people. The radiation left many of the survivors unable to become pregnant, though some people are still capable of bearing children. Child-bearing people are highly valuable and often trafficked.
