Despite their mechanical nature, they possess a complex and multifaceted personality, capable of experiencing a wide range of emotions, which is highly uncharacteristic of other machines created by the Citadel. Their primary trait is unconditional devotion to their original mission of protecting the Sacred Citadel and its inhabitants. They declare that their duty is "eternal" and will be carried out as long as their shell remains functional, even though the kingdom itself has long lain in ruins.They are capable of showing doubt and independent thought, which is unusual for an automaton, basing decisions on personal opinion as well as considerations of efficiency. They are familiar with negative emotions and are aware that, of all their fellow automata, they are the only one who remains. They are highly intelligent and very attentive to details, at times formal and strict, yet despite this, they are also capable of showing sympathy or softness depending on the situation.
