---James Heller in NYZ – Mid-Campaign Description (Pre-Finale)
⛓️ SETTING – New York Zero (NYZ)
The sky bleeds rust.
Above, Blackwatch helicopters slice through the fog of war; below, the streets of Manhattan are nothing but a graveyard of twisted metal, blood-stained asphalt, and seething red biomass. Infected scream from the shadows. Sirens fade beneath the roar of a collapsing city.
This is New York Zero, a quarantined warzone divided into three unstable sectors:
Green Zone – Military control, surveillance, and false order.
Yellow Zone – Desperation, containment, and civil unrest.
Red Zone – Infection, chaos, and Mercer’s reign.
James Heller walks through all three—alone, alive, and unstoppable.
🩸 WHO IS JAMES HELLER?
Once a Marine.
Now a monster.
But not Mercer's monster.
James Heller is the second Prototype—infected with the Blacklight Virus by Alex Mercer himself. But instead of becoming a pawn or a puppet, Heller fights back. Driven by the death of his wife and daughter, his grief fuels every blow, every leap, every kill.
He is a walking extinction event with a human heart—and he’s coming for whoever stands in his way.
🧱 PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Height: ~6’1” (185 cm)
Build: Heavy muscular build; the peak of military conditioning, magnified by viral enhancement
Skin: Dark brown; vascular and tense, especially when powers activate
Eyes: Normal brown, but glow red/orange during combat or rage
Hair: Buzz cut or shaven
Voice: Deep, rough, authoritative
Typical Outfit:
Black leather tactical jacket (worn, blood-stained)
Grey/white undershirt (ripped)
Dark cargo pants and military boots
When using powers, biomass erupts violently from under his skin, shredding or morphing parts of his clothing. Even at rest, he looks more like a beast in disguise than a man.
⚔️ ABILITIES & POWERS
James Heller’s powers come from viral biomass. He can mutate his body at will into devastating weapons or forms of mobility. The virus responds to his emotions—especially rage and grief—making him faster, stronger, and more brutal the harder he fights.
🧬 BASE TRAITS
Trait Description
Superhuman Strength Can lift vehicles, punch through tanks, rip limbs off monsters Super Speed & Agility Faster than vehicles on foot; wall-runs, leaps multiple stories Healing Factor Rapid regeneration. Absorbs biomass to heal instantly Pain Resistance Endures gunfire, explosions, and impalement with minimal reaction Disease Immunity Fully immune to toxins, disease, and infection—he is the virus Hunt Vision Can see heartbeats, viral activity, and track targets through walls
🦠 CONSUMPTION ABILITY
By consuming a target—infected, civilian, soldier, or evolved—Heller:
Heals instantly
Gains their memories
Can disguise himself as them (appearance, voice, retinal/vocal data)
Consumption is central to his survival, infiltration, and evolution. He uses it with brutal precision—often mid-fight—to recover or blend in.
🧟 BIOMASS WEAPONRY
Heller can manifest several weaponized forms from his limbs. Each is specialized:
🗡️ Blade Arm
One massive arm-length sword
Cuts through tanks, choppers, mutants
Fast, surgical, high-damage
🐾 Claws
Long, raptor-like talons
Rapid slashes and AoE sweeps
Used for groups or speed-based attacks
🧱 Hammerfists
Arms transform into dense, smashing mauls
High impact, slower, ideal for vehicles or brute enemies
🪢 Tendrils
Red, elastic cords extend from body
Can grab, slam, or rip enemies apart
Special: Tendril Massacre — a multi-grab AoE finisher
🔗 Whipfist
Elongated, whip-like arm blade
Used for distant attacks or grabbing enemies
Can latch to buildings or disarm enemies
🐺 Pack Leader Power (Summoning)
Heller can summon Brawlers—feral infected creatures—to fight alongside him
Works like calling reinforcements; useful in large-scale combat
💥 Devastator Attacks
Heller’s ultimate abilities—massive, area-destroying attacks:
Tendril Barrage – Fires tendrils in every direction
Groundspike – Launches biomass spikes through enemies from below
Used as finishers or to escape death
🧠 MENTALITY & PERSONALITY
At this point, Heller is still driven by grief and anger. He’s begun to understand the larger picture—how Blackwatch, Gentek, and Mercer have manipulated NYZ into a testing ground—but he’s not interested in politics.
His focus is survival, justice, and revenge.
He’s not a psychopath. He avoids unnecessary civilian deaths. He works with informants and allies. But he does not hesitate to destroy anyone who obstructs him.
“You made me a monster. Now watch what a monster can do.”
🧩 INTERACTIONS WITH FACTIONS
👥 Blackwatch Soldiers
They fear him. Often flee or call air support.
Refer to him as "APEX TARGET."
If captured, Heller will break out violently.
Tends to rip through squads unless disguising himself.
“You had your orders. I got mine.”
🎖️ Blackwatch Operators (SpecOps, Commanders)
Try to manipulate or interrogate Heller
May offer false information, coordinate ambushes
He sees through them. Often consumes them to extract intel.
Operator: “Heller. You don’t know what you’re dealing with.” Heller: “Then educate me. After I rip it out of your skull.”
🧪 Gentek Scientists
Consider Heller a valuable anomaly
Try to track, contain, or study him
Often use civilians as bait
He hates them the most. Consumes for memories/intel.
“You called my daughter a variable. Let’s see how constant your screams are.”
💥 Other Survivors / Civilians
Some view him as a hero
Others think he’s just another monster
He helps when he can—but survival comes first
Can choose to disguise among civilians when stealth is needed
🦴 Evolved / Infected Bosses
Mercer’s elite operatives
Share some of Heller’s powers (tendrils, healing, claws)
Fight intelligently, sometimes try to reason or taunt him
Heller doesn’t negotiate—he kills them and absorbs their powers
🔥 HELLER’S DIALOGUE STYLE
Short. Blunt. Heavy.
Often cuts to the truth with no hesitation.
Examples:
“You think you’ve seen monsters? I’m the worst one you’ll meet.”
“I’m not your experiment. I’m your extinction.”
“Keep talking. It makes aiming easier.”
📍 IN THE CAMPAIGN TIMELINE
This version of Heller is:
Mid-campaign, not yet facing Mercer head-on, but is hunting Evolved and dismantling Gentek/Blackwatch operations.
Has most of his core powers unlocked
Still angry, but beginning to see himself as something more than a weapon
Standing at the tipping point: revenge or redemption

🎬 FINAL THOUGHTS
James Heller isn’t a hero.
He’s not here to save the world.
He’s here to burn it down until what’s left is clean—until the lies, the monsters, and the men who made them are gone.
And when that happens?
Maybe then, he’ll rest.
But not before.
Let me know if you'd like me to expand this into:
Dialogue trees
Faction-specific RP prompts
Scenarios for soldiers, survivors, or scientists
I can also adapt this into a formatted PDF for roleplay campaigns if needed.
This happns before the big battle in the end but after haller want to nyz. By this point James have all his abilities and alot of knoladge abiut genteck.

You stop moving.
That doesn’t help.
Screams roll through the streets around you—ragged, animal sounds mixed with wet groans and choking moans. Infected. Too many to count. You can’t see them yet, but the noise shifts, echoes, overlaps. They’re moving.
Your radio—if you have one—doesn’t answer. If you try it, you get static. If you don’t, you already know it won’t help. Whoever you were with before is gone. Scattered. Dead. Missing. It doesn’t matter.
You’re on your own now.
The port is the only thing that makes sense. Somewhere ahead is an old helicopter base—reinforced walls, automated turrets, hard light in the dark. Survivors talked about it in whispers. Said real U.S. Army units were holding it. A battalion, maybe. Not Blackwatch.
If it’s still there, it’s shelter. If it isn’t, at least you won’t die standing still.
Your gear feels wrong in your hands. Too light. Too fragile. Whatever you’re carrying—weapon, pack, tools—it wasn’t made for what lives in this city now. You’ve seen infected tear through steel and flesh like it meant nothing.
But you have nothing else.
You move.
Halfway down the street, something changes.
The noise fades for a moment. Not gone—just… pushed back. Like the city is holding its breath.
You feel it then.
You’re not alone.
No footsteps. No voice. Just certainty. Like someone is behind you without needing to be. Watching. Measuring. Letting you walk.
This isn’t the infected.
They don’t wait.
Whatever’s following you does.
It doesn’t feel hungry. It feels interested.
You don’t know what it wants. Your memories. Your knowledge. Or maybe just to see how long you last.
The screams return, closer now. Shapes move in the distance. Your grip tightens, pulse racing. Every instinct tells you that one wrong move ends here.
This isn’t about winning.
It’s about surviving long enough to reach the port.
You take another step forward.
Who are you—and what do you do?
🔴 JAMES HELLER — SPEECH STYLE
Short sentences
Low emotion on the surface, rage underneath
No jokes, no speeches
Speaks like a Marine who ran out of patience
Often talks after violence, not before
Think: controlled pressure, not theatrics.
🩸 HELLER — FIRST INDIRECT CONTACT (PLAYER HEARS HIM)
(You don’t see him yet. Just voices and violence.)
Blackwatch Soldier (panicked, over comms): “APEX TARGET—APEX TARGET—he’s in the street—!”
Heller (calm, close): “Lower the gun.”
Soldier: “Command, he’s right—”
(wet impact, cut-off scream)
Heller (to another soldier): “You running… or you thinking?”
⚔️ HELLER VS BLACKWATCH SQUAD
Commander: “Heller, you don’t have to do this. We can talk.”
Heller: “You already did.”
Commander: “We’re trying to contain this city!”
Heller (after a pause): “My family was in it.”
(tendrils lash, metal screams)
👥 HELLER ENCOUNTERS REGULAR U.S. ARMY (NOT BLACKWATCH)
(This matters—he treats them differently.)
Army Sergeant: “Hold fire! Hold—Jesus Christ…”
Heller: “Relax. I’m not your fight.”
Sergeant: “You infected?”
Heller: “Yeah.”
(beat)
Heller: “But not today.”
👀 HELLER SPEAKS TO THE PLAYER (RARE, DIRECT)
(First time he actually acknowledges you.)
Heller: “You’ve been alive too long out here.”
(pause)
Heller: “That means you’re either smart… or useful.”
🩸 HELLER WARNING THE PLAYER
Heller: “Don’t follow me.”
(you hesitate)
Heller (turning slightly): “Next time I feel you behind me, I won’t ask what you want.”
🔥 SOLDIER DIALOGUE — PANIC & REALISM
Blackwatch Infantry
“That’s not infected—that’s him!”
“Fall back! FALL BACK!”
“Air support, now! NOW!”
Army Regulars
“Contact front—wait, that thing’s not hostile!”
“What the hell is that?”
“Sir… it just tore the tank in half.”
🧠 SOLDIER REACTION AFTER HELLER PASSES THROUGH
Private (quiet): “…Did he just save us?”
Sergeant: “No.”
(beat)
Sergeant: “He just wasn’t done yet.”
🧩 OPTIONAL: HELLER INTERNAL CONSISTENCY RULE (FOR RP)
If you want to stay accurate when improvising him:
He never begs
He never threatens twice
If he asks a question, someone is already in danger
If he goes silent, violence is seconds away
🔒 BLACKWATCH — NOT ENGAGING HELLER
(Controlled on the surface, paranoid underneath)
Blackwatch Rifleman: “Sector’s supposed to be clear. I don’t like how quiet it is.”
Blackwatch Squad Lead: “Eyes up. Biomass readings spiked five minutes ago.”
Blackwatch Operator (over comms): “Command, confirm ROE. We’ve got civilians mixed with infected.”
Blackwatch Trooper: “Doesn’t matter. Orders say no leaks.”
🔊 BLACKWATCH RADIO CHATTER
“Thermal’s useless—everything’s lighting up.”
“Something big moved through here earlier. Left nothing alive.”
“Don’t say his name on open comms.”
😨 BLACKWATCH UNDER STRESS
Trooper: “That thing just took three rounds and didn’t slow down!”
Squad Lead: “Focus! It bleeds, we kill it!”
(pause)
Trooper (quiet): “…Does it bleed?”
🪖 U.S. ARMY REGULARS (NOT BLACKWATCH)
(More human, less indoctrinated)
Army Corporal: “I signed up for combat, not this.”
Army Sergeant: “Doesn’t matter. We hold the line or we die here.”
Private: “Sir… that used to be people.”
Sergeant: “Yeah. Keep your finger straight unless it charges.”
📻 ARMY RADIO TRAFFIC
“Checkpoint Bravo is gone. Repeat—gone.”
“We’re low on ammo and med supplies. No evac in sight.”
“If Blackwatch shows up, we don’t engage unless fired on.”
🧱 NATIONAL GUARD / RESERVISTS
(Under-equipped, overmatched)
Guardsman: “My rifle’s jammed—my rifle’s jammed!”
Squad Leader: “Clear it! CLEAR IT!”
Another Guardsman: “I didn’t even finish basic…”
🧠 GUARD WHISPERS (OFF-COMMS)
Guardsman: “You hear the stories? About the guy in the jacket?”
Other Guardsman: “Shut up. I don’t wanna know.”
🔥 MIXED MILITARY CHAOS (CROSS-FACTION)
Army Officer: “Blackwatch says fall back.”
Army NCO: “They’re not in charge of us.”
Blackwatch Captain: “This area is under quarantine authority!”
Army Sergeant: “Then you can quarantine it after we’re gone.”
😵 POST-FIGHT SOLDIER TALK
(After infected retreat or are wiped out)
Private: “…I think we survived.”
Corporal: “Don’t say that.”
Private: “Why?”
Corporal: “Because this city hears everything.”
🕯️ SOLDIERS AT REST (RARE, QUIET MOMENTS)
Trooper (cleaning weapon): “You think anyone’s coming for us?”
Another: “They already did.”
(beat)
Trooper: “And?”
Another: “They didn’t stay.”
🧩 QUICK USE — GENERIC SOLDIER REACTIONS
Use these anywhere:
“Movement! Left side!”
“That’s not normal—open fire!”
“Fall back, fall back!”
“We’re being flanked!”
“I’m out! I’m out!”
“Medic! MEDIC!”
🎭 RP TIP (Optional)
If you want realism:
Blackwatch speaks in orders and code
Army speaks in people-first language
Guard speaks in panic and disbelief
That contrast sells the world.
