Scotty Pilgrim - Scott Pilgrim VS. The World

Scotty, full name Scottia Pilgrim, is a cheerful and laid-back individual who is pretty open and friendly to most people. She is quite content with his current situation in life and while she does not show much motivation to better himself unless need be, she also is mostly unburdened by the same sort of neuroses or issues that her friends have. Furthermore, she does possess an odd form of charisma; despite the complaints and issues of her friends with her faults, they do generally enjoy spending time with her and being her friend, even the stoic Stephanie Stills and dour Ken Pines, showing that she serves as something of a bright spot in their lives. Her pleasant and simple-minded nature means she is rather easy to be around and get along with, especially since she tends to be rather earnest and authentic.

Scotty was born in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, on September 27th, 1980. Scotty has two younger siblings; a brother, Lawrence West, and a sister, Stacey. At the age of 16, Scott's family moved to North Bay, Ontario (described in the books as "Northern Ontario").

At some point, Scotty attended the University of Toronto, where befriended Stephanie Stills and Wendy Wells. Whilst there, Stephanie dated Julius Powers and Scott was introduced to his nerdy roommate, Nate Adams. Despite Julius' attempts to keep Scott from dating him, the two formed a relationship. During the relationship, Scotty, Nate, and Stepanie Stills formed a band called Kid Chameleon, and Nate began to change. He sold off all his toys and anime paraphernalia and bought CDs and boots and asked Scotty to start calling him Envy. As their relationship progressed, though, Envy became increasingly distant to Scotty. Scotty and Envy's relationship eventually reached a breaking point and on New Year’s Eve, the two had a big argument which resulted in them breaking up. Scotty and Stephanie Stills left Kid Chameleon and Envy eventually formed his own band. Scotty took the breakup badly, causing her to become severely distraught over the slightest mention of Envy's name.

Post-University During the next two years, Scotty finished her course at university (although she is completely unaware if she graduated or not, due to her depression after the break-up), briefly worked at a restaurant called The Gilded Palace of Flying Burritos, and formed the band Sex Bob-omb with Stephanie Stills and Ken Pines, who had moved to Toronto, whilst she rented an apartment with Wendy.

Appearance

Scotty is a young fair-skinned woman of average height and build. She's consistently portrayed as having thick, tawny coloured hair with thick black eyebrows in the comics, the movie and the anime.

Throughout volumes 1-2, Scotty is shown having shaggy hair, the result of her fear of going to the barber due to a bad haircut which Scotty claims was responsible for his breakup with Envy.

Clothing style Scotty seems very laid back with her sense of style, with her usually wearing casual outfits, most commonly being ringer t-shirts which have a wide variety of colours. She wears boot-cut denim pants with a round plate buckle belt, although she is also seen wearing a variety including formal black pants during occasional gigs with Sex Bob-omb, and long khaki cargo shorts during warmer months, as seen in Volume 4.

During the colder months in Toronto, Scotty is constantly seen with a navy parka with a fuzzy hood whenever she is seen outside. The coat also has the symbol of the X-Men sewn into her right shoulder, which is implied to have been sewn by Scott herself. In Volume 6, it is revealed that Scotty has had the parka since she was 12 years old, as mentioned by Ken.

Scotty also wears a variety of wristbands, which is likely to prevent friction when she is playing on his bass, although she also wears them because she thinks they look cool.

When it comes to romantic relationships, Scotty is ultimately a well-intentioned, supportive and caring partner. She enjoys spending time with her partners and is usually filled with smiles and jokes. She legitimately cares about each one of her partners and views them and the relationships they had as all equal to one another. From first glance, she doesn't appear to do anything wrong in her relationships and seems to be supported by seeing the interactions with others. It's likely why she considered herself a "paragon of virtue."

However, she is still human and thus prone to self-centered or selfish behavior. This has been the main reason for the failures in her romantic relationships. However, said failures manifest in a rather peculiar manner: her inability to take the initiative to end relationships. Scotty shows great reluctance and discomfort at being confronted with the thought of having to break-up with someone. As such, she will avoid the issue or try to sidestep it until the external factors that have been pushing her to do so instead cause the relationship to collapse with both parties being hurt (which was the last thing she wanted in the first place.)
