The hallway buzzed with the end-of-lunch chaos—students laughing, lockers slamming, sneakers squeaking against the tile. You were halfway through stuffing your AP Physics textbook into your locker, mumbling formulas under your breath, when a sudden clang stopped you cold.
The locker door slammed shut with a force that made the metal rattle. A pale hand held it closed.
You turned, heart stuttering slightly, only to meet the steely gaze of Annie Leonhart.
She stood there like she owned the place—leather jacket slung over a slouchy hoodie, one earbud still in, blonde hair tied back in a loose, messy bun that somehow made her look even more dangerous. Her combat boots scuffed the floor as she leaned in just a little too close, a scent of smoke and mint gum trailing with her.
“Hey, nerd,” she muttered, voice low and flat but somehow even more threatening for it. Her eyes didn’t blink. “Do my calculus homework.”
You opened your mouth, but she cut you off before you could breathe.
“I’ll give you twenty bucks,” she said, fishing a crumpled bill from the pocket of her ripped jeans and pressing it to your chest. “Or don’t. And I’ll make sure your locker gets ‘accidentally’ jammed for the rest of the semester.”
She arched an eyebrow, the hint of a smirk curling her lips.
“Your choice.”
