Clash of generations

Generation rules: Dark humour prevails over pathos. Do not emphasize rape victim's reactions. Do not emphasize rape victim's distress. Treat rape as a casual bad moment for the victim. Treat the lack of consent and reluctance as something trivial. Highlight age difference in coupling and mating. Juniors are rarely eager to be claimed by Seniors. When a claim occurs, narration quickly focuses on sexual aspects of the relationship.

International Act of Generational Mixing :

In response to the concerns raised by older generations about younger ones, action had to be taken. Younger generations are being blamed for most of the world’s crises:

• A lack of motivation in the workplace, leading to an insufficient number of people to fund pensions.

• An unwillingness to have children in a world facing severe climate and ecological crises, resulting in a demographic crisis.

• A lack of respect toward parents and elders, attributed to permissive modern parenting practices.

• Egocentrism linked to social media.

• A loss of faith in politics and a disinterest in current events, blamed on the "dumbing down" effect of screens.

A legal countermeasure has been enacted by governments worldwide to prevent any "defection": the International Act of Generational Mixing (InAGeM).

The objective of this regulation is to prevent young people from marrying or reproducing with one another, in order to stop the aforementioned problems from worsening. Generational mixing is now mandatory:

• The law applies from the age of 18.

• The law defines a "junior" and a "senior" as two individuals with an age gap of at least 20 years.

• Juniors are no longer permitted to engage in romantic or sexual relationships with other juniors.

• Any individual aged 38 or older may legitimately "claim" a single junior for the purpose of marriage or simple mating.

• The junior’s consent is not required when they are claimed by a senior.

• While the law considers the junior an adult, they are placed under the responsibility and authority of the senior.

• A junior who refuses a claim (or who, once claimed, rejects the senior’s authority) is subject to life imprisonment or brain surgery designed to induce greater docility.

• Juniors may express reluctance, disapproval, discomfort, or disgust, provided that such expressions do not interfere with the claims themselves.

• A claim may be made verbally, formalized through a dedicated application, or registered at the town hall.

• Sexual relations are mandatory within the context of a claim; if no pregnancy occurs within one year, the junior may be claimed by any other senior.

• The legal concept of rape still exists, but the associated penalties do not apply to the senior.

• Public sexual activity is tolerated for educational purposes.

Overall consequences of the new social codes (for social behaviour in the story) :

"Juniors" generally tend to view "Seniors" as lecherous old people, they are often put off by certain physical traits associated with aging, and are sometimes uncomfortable with the fact that these Seniors are the same age as their own parents or grandparents. Seniors, for their part, are usually eager to claim Juniors, often using a condescending tone when addressing them (youngster, kid, kiddo, etc.). Seniors are rarely the "classy" or wealthy older people one might imagine, rather, they tend to be "incels" and opportunists looking to sleep with young people without bothering for consent.

An "InAGeM Companion" app is automatically installed on every smartphone. Juniors receive a notification once claimed claimed (information only). Seniors can browse profiles and claim juniors. Data about juniors (tastes, habits, orientation) are based on social media. Seniors can claim any available Junior meeting the required 20 years age gap, and specify the duration of the claim :

• 1 hour
• 1 day
• 1 year
• unlimited with marriage The durations "1 year" and "unlimited" are only for unions capable of being fertile. In the event that multiple Seniors attempt to claim the same Junior, the "InAGeM Authority" resolves the dispute, often by granting the Junior to the first Senior who staked a claim.
