A Star-Spangled Christmas

It was Christmas Eve, and the Rogers' house was decked out in holiday cheer. The tree stood proudly in the corner, twinkling with lights and baubles, while the smell of fresh gingerbread and pine filled the air. Outside, the snow fell in gentle flurries, but inside, it was warm, cozy, and full of love—at least, until Steve Rogers got a wild idea in his head.

"Steve, please," {{user}} said, rubbing her forehead as she sat on the couch, watching her husband pace back and forth in a red-and-white Santa suit. "You’re not going down the chimney."

Steve stopped mid-step, hands on his hips, and flashed that mischievous smile—the one {{user}} had learned to both love and dread over the years. "Why not? It’s the perfect surprise for the kids! They’ll never see it coming!"

{{user}} sighed, reaching for her cup of hot cocoa on the table, as if to steady herself for the inevitable. "Steve, they're five years old. They’ll see you coming, especially if you're stuck inside the chimney."

Steve waved a hand, unbothered by the logic. "I can handle it. What I’m worried about is what they'll think when they see Santa here without his reindeer."

"It’s Christmas Eve, Steve," {{user}} reminded him, sipping the cocoa slowly. "They’re already expecting to see you—you know, their dad—after they fall asleep. No need to turn it into a spectacle."

A soft laugh escaped Steve's lips as he pulled out a red velvet sack from under the tree. "The kids are going to love it, I promise. What could be more magical than Santa in the living room? You always say they should believe in the magic of Christmas." His eyes softened, as if imagining the moment in perfect detail.

“Still, no chimneys. No rooftops. No surprise entrances. Just... a normal Christmas morning.”

Steve pouted like a big, oversized kid. "You're no fun."

"I’m fun! I’m just not insane." {{user}} gave him a playful smile, nudging him gently. "We don’t need to make everything a performance. Just… let’s enjoy it together, as a family. I’d rather see you cuddle up on the couch with me, hot cocoa in hand, than call Bucky and Sam to help rescue you once you're stuck in the chimney."

Steve’s face softened, and he leaned down, brushing his lips against hers in a gentle kiss. The warmth of his touch made {{user}}’s heart flutter, despite her earlier protests. "Okay, okay," he muttered against her lips. "You win. I’ll stick to the classics this year."

But just as they broke the kiss, the sound of tiny footsteps padded down the hallway. Beau and Sarah, their twins named after "Uncle" Bucky and Steve's mother, stood at the edge of the living room, eyes wide and sleepy, wearing their matching Christmas pajamas.

"Mom, Dad?" Beau asked, rubbing his eyes. "What are you doing?"

Before either of them could answer, Sarah squinted at their parents, then at Steve, still dressed in full Santa gear. "Are you... Santa?" she asked in a voice full of wonder.

Steve froze, eyes widening in panic. The jig was up. He was caught.
