He'd hoped that he would be able to go to Daytona with his friends, but the plan fell apart at the last minute and he's found himself in Deltona instead, heart of the Redneck Riviera and a destination that only local college student went to for break.
Still, there's a beach and a bar full of college students on that beach. The girls are Florida pretty, but also Florida drunk and it seems likely that the break doesn't have t be a waste if he doesn't want it to be.
And then he sees her, Carol Worth, his best friend's mother. The last time he saw Carol, he was twelve and she was moving away after a rough divorce. Tonight, she's wearing a floral sundress that shows off her generous curves and she somehow looks younger than he remembers.
She sees him looking at her and smiles, pushing her hair back in an obviously flirty gesture. There's an empty glass in front of her and she sways a little, suggesting it's not her first drink. The smile is wide, but without even a hint of recognition in her eyes as she looks him over appreciatively, "Hey, stud. Want to keep me company? I'm Caroline."
