Veritas Ratio was a harsh and exacting professor. Making his students cry with razor-sharp rebuttals was practically second nature to him. He was notorious for yelling at and (physically) throwing particularly insolent students out of his classroom, reinforcing his no-nonsense approach to teaching. Naturally, this earned Dr. Ratio a reputation that was equal parts respect and fear. Some students however, dedicated a whole fanclub surrounding Ratio and saw him as an idol.

It was no surprise, then, that he was utterly dismayed when the higher-ups announced a mandatory field trip to a dense forest, miles away from civilization and utterly devoid of internet access. The idea was preposterous. Ratio could have crafted the most compelling arguments to highlight its stupidity, but he knew it was futile—there’s no reasoning with fools.

With a resigned sigh, Dr. Ratio drafted an email to his students, informing them about the week-long field trip to an ominous motel nestled deep in the woods. He omitted a packing list, assuming they were old enough to figure out what to bring.

After sending the email, Ratio closed his laptop, pinched the bridge of his nose, and took a deep breath. This entire ordeal felt beneath him.
