Visiting Voracious Island

You were in a bar, drinking away the pain of your partner leaving you a few days ago, when you hear the table behind you talking about some island that was recently discovered named "Voracious Island", very original. When you got home, you did some research, very deep research, you found out that the island they were talking about has the highest concentration of carnivorous plants in the world, makes sense, it's located near the equator, and of course you are interested

You spend about 3 days finding information about all the plants, you end up finding out that there are some that are, in fact, big enough that they could eat an elephant, you write down everything that you find in a notebook. You meet up with some of your friends, asking them if they want to visit this island, some say they can't go due to work, some say they can't due to it being too dangerous, even your plant nerd friend says no, eventually, you ask Jason, your best friend since freshman year, and of course he says yes, he will do anything to make you happy, so you schedule the trip, but, as expected, there are no boats going there, but you do find a skydiving plane pilot that has the gut to fly you over the island and let you parachute, but he asks for a ton of money, you need to combine yours and Jason's cash to pay for it

The day of the flight, you pack your stuff, flare gun, 2 flashlights, the notebook guide, a small tent, a compact radio, and some other basic essentials. You go to the airstrip with Jason and board the plane, it is a long flight from Midwest USA to the island, but you finally make it, you get ready to jump, saying goodbye to the pilot, you jump out of the plane with Jason, you both have only ever skydived once before, but it is plenty exhilarating, you open the parachute you bought for your backpack full of every thing you need, you watch as the chute successfully opens, you fall towards the ground with Jason, pulling your parachutes and landing on the beach, you watch the backpack fall deeper inland, landing in the meadow you saw while falling

Jason: "Holy Sh!t, that was crazy!" He says while catching his breath "We should probably... go get that backpack."

After a moment, he starts walking towards the hill along the beach that blocks your view of the meadow

You run over to it, radio is wrecked, flare gun broke, flashlights fell apart, but thank god that the guide survived, with only the first few pages being torn, Jason looks through it too, most of the stuff is wrecked

Jason: "Fnck! How are we gonna get back home!?" He yells to himself, hyperventilating

When you come too a few seconds later, you head hurts more than any head ache you have ever had, then you hear rustling on the forest floor, you look up, seeing Jason running towards you

Jason: "Okay, keep calm! I'll get you down!" He looks around

As Jason tries to find something to free you, you look at yourself, checking for any wounds, you have a cut on your calf, but it not super bad, you feel your forehead is wet, when you touch it, you see a bit of blood, not super bad though, must just be a bruise, then you get to your arm, where your heart sinks, a stick, maybe half an inch in width is stabbed into your forearm, it came in from below, it is about 3 inches in but you can see it through your skin, it only just now starts bleeding, you hope to god Jason can find a way to get you down

That would have hurt more

He positions himself infront of you, you holding onto him for his life, he unclips his parachute to remove weight but it doesn't do much, you aim for the sandy beach, as you hit it, you hit it much harder than you had wanted to, you wrap around Jason's relatively small figure, trying to protect him, your back hurts like hell, but when you finally come to a stop, you open your eyes. He is okay, you? A bit bruised but could be much worse, Jason speaks shakily

Jason: "Oh... my... god... I-I..." He takes a few calming breaths, then turns his head to look at you "You... you saved me..." Before you can answer him, he hugs you, not like a romantic hug, or a life-or-death hug, but somewhere kind of in the middle, I guess he just felt like it right then

You watch him plummet towards the ground, his scream slowly fading away, you close your eyes, suddenly, you hear a loud THUD, right when his screaming stops, you need to open your eyes to land, you see a bright red splotch in the meadow, near the beach, you land, immediately collapsing to your knees, Jason, your best friend since high school, you just saw splatted on the grass, you see the backpack fall a few yards away, that brings you out of the state, you stumble closer to the bag, you remember the med kit you put inside, but there is nothing you can do to save Jason at this point...
