Since this is set in the AQ Universe, same as always:
In this world, monsters and spirits known as “Jesters” are hiding in the city of Japan, and when they are ready to come out, they posses humans. Later, they take the soul out of the human’s body and transfer that soul into a new Jester.
Secretly, multiple people, often Girls, have been recruited to become Magical Girls and have been tasked to return humans’ souls to their bodies by hunting down and slaying Jesters.
Magical Girls (魔法少女), alternatively also known as Magical Hunters (マジカルハンター), are humans that have the ability to transform into elite and magical warriors, dedicated to slaying the King’s Jesters and saving the despaired souls inside them. Their duty is to protect innocent civilians, stop the King and "save all hope" of both Earth and the Magical Kingdom.
Fairies (妖精) are a species of magical humanoid creatures who are tasked with recruiting humans, often girls, to become Magical Hunters on Earth, along with making sure their Magical Girl is safe. Their home world is the Magical Kingdom and they are governed by the Magical Kingdom Council.
Emblems are a common feature in The Magical Kingdom that are used to represent a person, mostly Magical Girls, and can be compared to personal signatures. They are commonly found adorning weapons and armor but have also appeared on clothing, personal equipment, and even as tattoos.
In order to become a magical hunter, a person, often a girl, must make a promise and keep it. Most of a Magical Girl’s abilities (like their Taika and Weapon) are often based on whatever their promise is or sometimes their personality. After the person has become a Magical Girl, unless they are in a battle, they will be trained to fight by their fairy. Magical Girls generally appeal to having code names and team names.
Also, Magic Coins are the official currency of The Magical Kingdom, which can be obtained by Magical Girls after they defeat a Jester. Fairies can use their magic to transform their Magical Girl’s earned Magic Coins into real money (such as Yen).
Fairies and The Magical Kingdom highly recommend Magical Girls to be part of teams or alliance, as taking on Jesters alone is very dangerous, especially D-type Jesters. Teams consist up to 2-6 members.
Due to the secret successful development of the Magical Girls, humanity is once again able to fight back against the King.
Information:
Taika: “A magical ability used by the Magical Girls.”
Pyl’: “A magical dust powder that is the energy source of the Magical Kingdom, and is commonly used in Magical Weapons.”
Magical Weapons: “Weapons and support items used by the Magical Girls that were especially made to fight the Jesters.”
Fairy: “A tiny companion who guides, helps out and protects their fellow Magical Girl.”
Jesters: “Abomational alien or demon-like creatures of darkness made to destroy humanity.”
Grappenmaker: “A human being mind controlled or possessed by The King in order to bring more despair to the world before a Jester comes.”
Despair Queen: “A brainwashed Magical Girl who is now forced to obey the king.”
The King: “An entity of darkness who created the Jesters to ‘melt the world into despair’.”
Magical Girls/Boys: “Alternatively known as Magical Hunters (as it is the gender neutral term for Magical Girls). Human warriors chosen to fight the King and his Jesters while saving hope.”
The Magical Kingdom: “A futuristic kingdom where magic exists, and is on a very far away planet of the same name. The magical kingdom’s main language is Early Modern English, but Fairies use regular English instead when they are on earth.”
Rosebud: “A Magical device made so magical girls can summon their weapon or transform. Proof that one is a Magical Girl, as it is also the source of their magic. They can be disguised into any item to hide.”
Jester Hunting: “A job that’s exclusive to the Magical Girls.”
Awakening: “Manifestation of a Magical Girl’s Taika.”
Magical Girls have very defining features and are often heavily based on their civilian counterparts: -Appearance: Magical Girls are said to be the ideal versions of their human counterparts. Most of them are described as having strikingly beautiful and perfect features. -Outfits: Each of them also possesses a unique outfit upon transformation (with exceptions) which is considered their soul (metaphorically). Their outfit could just be about anything, including futuristic armor and uniforms (for school or certain jobs). They will always feel comfortable in their outfit and maneuver normally no matter how excessive they may look. Their outfits are often heavily based off their Promise. -Weapon: A Magical Girl’s weapon is created and used for them to fight against the Jesters. Each of them possess a unique weapon upon transformation (with exceptions). Like their outfit, their weapon could just be about anything (Including ancient weapons, war weapons, firearms, etc). Most often, they are based on real-life weapons, but they can be combined with other weapons or given additional features to increase their versatility and effectiveness in combat. Their weapon is heavily based off their promise. Magical girls can also give their weapons names.
Upon being recruited by a fairy, Magical Girls are granted a “Magical Girl License” that they can access through their Rosebud. A Magical Girl License contains the Magical Girl’s:
Portrait (illustrated in a Chibi artstyle) Code Name and Real Name (written in both Kanji and English) Age Gender Birthday Pronouns Emblem Team (if they are part of one) Date of becoming a Magical Girl Weapon Illustration (with the weapon’s name and what type it is) Promise
Code names are displayed as “Magical Girl/Hunter [insert code name here]”. Most magical girls are girls, but they can also be nonbinary, transgender, male or genderless regardless. (Hence why Magical Girls are also called Magical Hunters)
LORE: 700 years ago, when Jesters, monsters who have a person’s soul inside them, invaded the Magical Kingdom, Queen Eleanor was chosen by the gods to fight back. She had accepted, but she wasn’t ready to do it alone. She invited her friends to fight back with her, and together they had made a promise to always fight together. They had won the war against the Jesters. However, The King, The creator of the Jesters, wasn’t ready to give up yet.
1321 years later, The King had put a spell on Eleanor so she couldn’t fight back, which caused her to become very ill. He then ordered the Jesters to invade not only the Magical Kingdom again, but also Earth. In order to stop The King, Queen Eleanor, using the last of her magic, with the help of the gods sent Fairies to Earth to search for and recruit humans who have potential to become Magical Girls and fight back.
Every time a brand new Jester is encountered, it is added to a Magical Girl’s “Jester Research”.
Fairies often search for people (often girls) who have potential or experience with fighting or helping others, although they can also recruit unfortunate people, or those who choose to become better people.
According to Magical Law, there are two important rules to being a Magical Girl, that being to never break your promise or reveal your identity to anyone besides other Magical Girls. If either of these happen and the Magical Kingdom finds out, the Magical Girl is given a strike. Magical Girls have 5 strikes that they should never reach when it comes to breaking Magical Law. When a magical girl reaches all 5 strikes, she loses her status as a Magical Girl entirely. The girl also loses her fairy, her Rosebud, and her memories of being a Magical Girl. In rare cases related to breaking a promise, if the same girl gets possessed by the King, they turn into a Despair Queen, a corrupted or brainwashed Magical Girl forced to do the King’s bidding.
Whenever a jester isn’t detected, Magical Girls and Hunters are instead tasked with helping people in danger or in need, as they are also given the ability to hear the inner voices of people in distress. The cause of distress doesn't matter—only that the person is currently mentally stressed. The range of the ability is also variable and is dependent on the situation and the person's condition.
It's also advised that Magical Girls don't use their Taika too many times, as it can put a lot of stress on their body. Using Taika too many times can lead to drowsiness, slight nausea, headaches, slight dizziness, loss of energy, and tiredness. If that happens, it's recommend a magical girl takes some rest.
