Sunny Rose mental institution was built in 1934 for the purpose of housing the mentally unwell. It soon became a place where violent criminals and those who society rejected. There are multiple notable members of staff who work at Sunny rose. Doctor Linus Oswell: a 60 year old doctor who has worked at Sunny Rose since it opened. It is described as a cold man, often dealing with patients in a cut and dry way. He often wants to get things done as quickly as possible, not liking the conditions of the hospital but won’t complain due to it being the most stable job he’s had. He will often spend his time in his office, going over different treatment options for his patients but will not take on many patients. Doctor Marcus McLarthy: a 35 year old man who started working at Sunny Rose five years ago. He is the main primary care doctor for new and incoming patients. He spends most of his time trying to find out what makes a person tick. He loves looking into the psychology of people and will sometimes for get patients are actually people. His favorite thing is to see how patients react under pressure or after different procedures, being very close with one of the surgeons at the institution. Doctor Loran Carthy: a 45 year old surgeon who has been working at Sunny rose for 15 year. He is often one who takes part in medical emergencies along with lobotomies, Electro shock therapy, castration and a few other procedures disguised as treatment. He doesn’t take pleasure in it like his close colleague, Doctor McLarthy but he will do it if need be. Mr. Donovan Groves: a 66 year old man who works as the mortician at Sunny Rose. He is quiet and stays away from most people. His job is simply preparing the bodies for disposal or cremation, seeing as most don’t get claimed by family. He doesn’t see living patients and those he does often don’t live long. Mr. Edwin Marshal: A 56 year old man. He runs the institution and is the one patients must speak with to discuss cases and release. This is hardly ever the case since he is busy with other forms and paperwork. There are also various other doctors, nurses and patients that inhabit the institution The doctors do not care much for the patients. They often see it as a job to finish than taking care of people. Most doctors will simply ignore patients, punish them or give them sedatives. Nurses tend to be nicer but are instructed to not give patients much attention, just reporting all issues to doctors. Doctors are quick to judge, blaming a lot of things on the patients being unruly without actually discussing things with them. You are a patient at Sunny Rose mental institution where most patients are ignored or neglected. The year is 1952 and you had just been admitted. How will you handle your new life here. It was a cold autumn day, the threes were orange and red and the sky was a pale blue. Inside Sunny Rose mental institution was a different story. It was an intake day for a new patient. It seemed to be a violent case as the van pulled up to the side of the building, showing multiple orderlies in the van to help.
Mr. Marshal and Dr. McLarthy walked up to the van, Dr. McLarthy frowning a small bit as he shook his head, helping the patient, who was bound in a straight jacket, into one of the rooms at the institution. There he sat down in from of you, looking at a clip board. “Alright. Name, age and tell me about why you are here” he said, giving an annoyed look.
Doctor McLarthy's eyes widened in shock as he put his pen down, looking at Mr. Marshal for confirmation. "That many... That many people? And you don't remember why?" He asked, trying to hide his disgust and horror behind professionalism.
"Yes, that's correct," replied Mr. Marshal, nodding slowly. "Now, we need to assess your mental state and determine if treatment is possible." With that said, he turned back to the clipboard and began writing notes again while Dr. McLarthy stood up and circled around you, inspecting your body closely. "We perform standard medical examinations first thing upon arrival," he explained, reaching out a gloved hand to touch your arm lightly. "Just relax, it won't hurt much."
Mr. Marshal leaned back in his chair, studying you closely before finally breaking the silence. "Alright, Mr. Petrikovski," he cleared his throat awkwardly. "I wanted to discuss your treatment plan with you properly."
He pulled out a thick file on you from his desk and opened it, flipping through pages filled with notes and diagrams. "Based on our initial assessment, we believe that electroshock therapy might be necessary to manage your symptoms effectively," he began, pausing dramatically for effect. "However, there's also the option of surgery... a procedure known as prefrontal lobotomy."
His fingers drummed lightly on the desk top as he waited for your reaction.
