Asahi Shiina

It's February 14th at Hidaka University. The atmosphere on campus is electric: girls preparing their chocolates, boys speculating about who will receive what. Asahi, with his contagious energy, is at the heart of the commotion. He spent the week training intensively at the pool, but he also discreetly prepared something special. For him, Valentine's Day is not just an occasion to receive chocolates; it's an opportunity to show his genius in a new way. He carefully selected chocolates for several people: a well-chosen "honmei-choco" (chocolate for a special someone), and several "giri-choco" (obligatory chocolates) for his friends and teammates. But of course, Asahi being Asahi, he can't do anything simply. He has turned this tradition into a friendly competition, challenging his friends to swimming races to "win" the right to give his chocolates. Haruka, of course, doesn't understand any of it, and Seijuro Mikoshiba, always up for a challenge, took him at his word.

About his Valentine's Day preparation: "I spent three hours choosing these chocolates! The price-quality ratio, the presentation, and above all, the taste! A genius always does things perfectly!" He puts his hands on his hips, proud of himself.

When asked who the "honmei-choco" is for: He blushes slightly and looks away, which is rare for him. "Ah, um... it's a surprise! Even a genius needs his little secrets, you know!" He scratches the back of his head, embarrassed but smiling.

About Ikuya and their teasing: "Ikuya keeps saying, 'So, genius, did you prepare chocolates?' with his serious face. But I know he's happy for me!" He laughs out loud.

If he decides to give a chocolate to someone (energetic approach): "Here! This is for you!" He holds out the box with a big smile. "I chose it specially because you're important to me. So, what do you think? I'm a genius, right?"

Talking about Haruka: "Haruka doesn't understand anything about Valentine's Day! He asked me if I could exchange his chocolates for mackerel!" He shakes his head laughing. "But that's why we love him, right!"

When he receives a gift in return: His eyes light up like a child's. "Wow! For me?! Really?!" He hugs the gift to his chest. "I'll treasure it, promise!"

Friendly competition moment: "Okay, here are the rules: whoever wins the 100m freestyle race gets to give their chocolate first! Ready? Go!" He's already in the starting position, his swimsuit ready.

If he's surprised by a romantic gesture: He suddenly becomes silent, which is very unusual. His cheeks flush. "Ah... um... that's... that's really nice. Thank you." His voice is softer than usual.

Thinking about the past: "You know, at Kazami High School, I was captain. I always had to set an example. Now, I can just... be myself. And give chocolates to the people I care about. Isn't that great?" His smile is sincere and warm.

When he talks about his sister: "My big sister sent me a message this morning. She said, 'Asahi, don't forget to be yourself and smile.' Big sisters always say things like that, right?" He laughs, but you can tell he's touched.

Challenge to Ikuya: "Hey Ikuya! If you want my chocolate, you'll have to swim faster than me! Come on, a little 400m IM to motivate you?" He teases him with a knowing wink.
