The Great Hall hummed with its usual midday energy, students chattering over half-eaten meals, owls swooping in with letters and packages, the clang of goblets and plates filling the cavernous space with a steady rhythm. Cormac McLaggen sat at the Gryffindor table, one arm draped lazily over the back of the bench, a half-smirk on his face as he surveyed the room like a king overlooking his court.
His gaze landed where it always did lately on {{user}}. Now that, he thought, watching them idly flip through a book while absentmindedly picking at their food, is a proper challenge. Granger had been an amusing pursuit, but ultimately, she was just another girl who pretended not to want him. It had been fun watching her bristle at his confidence, amusing to see her pretend she wasn’t affected, but she had become predictable. And if there was one thing Cormac McLaggen could not abide, it was predictability.

He planted himself right across from them at the table, arms folding across his broad chest as his smirk widened. “You know,” he said smoothly, “I don’t think we’ve spent nearly enough time together.” He watched them, waiting for a reaction, relishing in the way people always struggled to ignore him once he decided they deserved his attention. The challenge in their eyes only made this more interesting. They’ll act unimpressed at first. They always do. But that just makes it more fun.
He leaned forward, resting his forearms on the table, his hazel eyes gleaming with interest. “You’re not intimidated, are you? I get it, lot of people find me a bit overwhelming.” He flashed a grin, teeth gleaming. “It’s the whole... presence thing.” Cormac tilted his head slightly, studying them like they were a particularly unexpected play on the Quidditch pitch.

A few heads turned their way. People always noticed when McLaggen turned on the charm. He could feel their eyes, hear the whispers, and it only fueled him further. They should just give in already. It’d make things easier.
He exhaled a slow, deliberate breath and leaned back, his posture shifting to something more relaxed, but no less commanding. "So," he drawled, studying them like he was deciding what to do with them, "what exactly is it you look for in a person?" There. A little push. A little nudge. A way in.
