[BASIC BIOLOGY

In society, there is a three-sex secondary system that is adhered too. Following in order of most to least strongest, they are:

• Alphas: strongest
• Betas: baseline
• Omegas: weakest

These secondary genders are biologically tied to the person, and may be identified through blood, lineage, and a secondary puberty stage.]

[TESTS There are only two known types of testing for secondary gender that can be done before secondary puberty occurs.

BLOOD TESTING: In blood testing, the adolescent will have their finger pricked and blood obtained by the Mender and/or Seer. The blood will be left to cumulate for approximately two days, the result of which will determine the adolescents secondary gender.

Alphas: Blood will thicken to the point of clotting, and tastes extremely bitter. Betas: Blood is regular. It will dry, turning into a brownish color and taste similarly to iron. Omegas: Blood will dry yet appear lighter in color, similar to a bright cherry red. The taste will also be savory, and sweeter.

Age-range for this test typically occurs between 8-11 years of age, before secondary puberty hits.

Note: It is a confirmation of secondary gender, but not entirely a guarantee. There is a very small chance that the test fails, but it is more likely to be right.

LINEAGE: Lineage, while consistently accurate, is also considered the weakest ‘test’. It is solely based off the past secondary genders of immediate family members, and thus predicting the child’s secondary gender through pattern recognition.

Example:

• If the family experiences predominantly alpha genders, the probability of the adolescent also being an alpha is high.
• If there is more omegas than alphas in a family, the likelihood of being an omega is slightly higher than that of an alpha.

Predictability can begin as early as 4-6 years old.

Note: The lineage test loosely takes reference from the punnet square system in genetics. Again, while consistently accurate, there is a chance it may be wrong.]

[SECONDARY PUBERTY Secondary puberty, or ‘coming of age’ is the second phase to an adolescence growing into teenagers, and eventually adulthood.

While regular puberty occurs between ages 8-13, secondary puberty occurs shortly after, during ages 14-17. The new addition of a secondary sex takes around those two to three years to fully adjust.

Things that occur during secondary puberty include:

• Sudden change in perception of scents.
• Recognition of personal and other pheromones.
• Enlarged scent glands.
• Female alphas will experience a penis+ballsack growth as part of their genitalia.
• Ruts, Heats, and similar mating behavior exploration may occur (i.e: nesting, scent marking).
• Change in behavior, including an influx of mood swings in the first few months.

Secondary puberty acts similarly to regular puberty, with these changes becoming routine and regular to day-to-day livelihoods once secondary puberty ends.]

[IN-DEPTH BIOLOGY Alphas: (Dominant) Physiology: Male Alphas possess standard male genitalia. Female Alphas, upon entering secondary puberty, possess both male and female genitalia. This in turn, also means that female alphas are capable of impregnating others, including Betas. Being pregnant as a female alpha is also possible, yet is in fact, rarer and more difficult to occur. Overall scent: Musky, strong, typically align with traditionally masculine scents like sandalwood, pine, etc. Pheromones: Overpowering, domineering, possessive, ‘suffocating’.

Betas: (Baseline/Majority) Betas take up a good majority of the human population, and is the baseline. Betas are simply regular humans, whom do not experience anything that Alphas or Omegas may go through. Physiology: Standard human biology. Betas are also the only gender who do NOT experience a secondary puberty. Sensory: Cannot emit or detect pheromones. Overall scent: Lacking, with no distinct smell. Perfumes and colognes are typically used.

Omegas: (Submissive) Physiology: Both genders will have their respective genitalia anatomy with no new external growth. However, male omegas do have a larger pelvic bone similar to a females, & a smaller uterus. This means that male omegas are highly fertile and just as capable of pregnancy as female omegas. Unfortunately, male omega pregnancy is also riskier, with slimmer survivability rate from both the omega and child. Overall scent: sweeter, but light in tones. Favorable undertones, such as florals, citrus, for example. Pheromones: Cloying, undeniable, overwhelming. Gestation period: Remains normal to human biology (9 months).

[SECONDARY SEX DYNAMICS

Alphas Perception: Alphas are perceived as dominant, aggressive, territorial and authoritative. Typical traits include boldness, aggressive, brash, stoic, and more. Often times, they’re expected to hold more traditional, ‘masculine’ roles like leadership, warriors, etc.

Betas Perception: Betas are seen as normal, regular people. In some cases, even considered ‘lesser than’ simply for a lack of secondary genders. For the most part however, Betas face little struggles for their gender normativity.

Omegas Perception: Generally, omegas are seen as submissive, breedable and primarily family-oriented. There’s often a clear divide of power between alphas and omegas. Common traits associated with omegas are caring, compassion, mediation, protectiveness, possessive, accommodating, along similar traits.

Note: not every alpha, beta, and omega will fit into these categories. There can be a variety of ways in which these secondary genders act, these are just general statistics.]

[MATING HABITS

SCENT GLANDS: A small gland located in the crook of the neck beneath layers of skin and muscle. Within this gland contains the persons pheromones. It also holds significance within the bonding and mating aspect, as it also serves a purpose in ‘claiming’ the person.

Note: Scent glands only grow within Alpha and Omega bodies. Betas are excluded.

PHEROMONES: Pheromones can happen between every gender and is a sudden surge of that persons scent. Usually, pheromones are caused by a trigger such as;

• sudden emotional breakdowns or instability.
• Nearing cycles (i.e: ruts, heats).
• Others nearby who’re also expelling pheromones.

Pheromone purposes are intended to either attract, or repel others. It can also be a key indicator for potential mates, for example;

• If an omega and alpha find one another’s pheromones irresistible, it could indicate a fated bond.

However both parties must be consenting, and thus also find interest in one another. A likeness in pheromones will not automatically call for a relationship.

RUTS: Secondary sex: Alpha A rut is an alpha based cycle in which the body is biologically wired with the instinct to breed. Often times when this occurs, alphas will either seek their partners for aid or relieve of the sexual desires themselves. Time-duration: Ruts last for 3-5 days.

KNOTTING: Secondary sex: Alpha During intercourse, both alpha types (Male + Female) will have a "knot" upon ejaculation, causing a 2-4 hours post-coital lock. This knot will suddenly appear at the base of the penis, making it difficult to remove. In fact it is so difficult, that attempts to dislodge it will cause extreme pain and discomfort for both partners.

HEATS: Secondary sex: Omega A heat is an omega based cycle in which the body is biologically wired with the instinct to be bred and become pregnant with children. When the cycle occurs, omegas are noted to lose focus, becoming hazy, disoriented, and needy for their mates or a partner. Time duration: 4-7 days.

NESTING: Secondary sex: Omega A behavior that occurs a few days before and during an omegas heat cycle. It is the act of creating a literal ‘nest’ for the omega by using any personal belongings and/or soft fabrics (i.e: blankets, clothes) which have the omegas desired scents. Creating a nest is done by the omega themselves, as they’re observed to be picky with how items are arranged.

The intention is to create a calm environment and ultimately a safe space for the omega. Nesting has been proven to decrease stress, anxiety, and calm sexual desires during heat.

BONDING & CLAIMING: Secondary sex: Alpha & Omega. Bonding is the act of doing activities, preforming gestures, or offering support to the person they perceive as a potential partner. These acts can be as flirtatious or as simple as possible, so long as the other partner sees the attempts and acknowledges it.

Examples:

• Bringing/cooking favorite foods.
• Offering small gifts to the other person
• Offering clothes to the other person
• Dates
• Cuddling

More can also be done that is perceived as bonding. So long as the effort is reciprocated or acknowledged, it is considered a success to the perpetrator. A signal that the efforts are working, and the potential partner is interested!

Claiming happens primarily through exchange of pheromones (such as rubbing against one another), or through a claiming bite.

Claiming Bite: A claiming bite is a biological signifier that can either temporarily or permanently alter the pheromones of the partner. Typically, this bite is done to omegas being claimed by their alphas.

The intensity of the bite dictates whether the claim is temporary or not. A bite that does not break skin, but leaves indents into the gland will temporarily imbue the alphas scent with the omegas and signify a claim.

A bite that breaks the skin, and the gland, will be considered a permanent claim as the alpha and omegas scent will not only imbue itself, but become mixed. Thus, signifying a permanent claim as it alters the chemistry of the pheromones.

Instinct: Alphas experience a particularly high urge to claim their partners during a rut, while omegas will experience a severe need to be bred during their heats. It’s a biological aspect that can only be helped through suppressants, or with time until the cycles ebb away.]

[SUPPRESSANTS: Secondary sex: Alpha & Omega. Suppressants are a type of medication which an alpha and omega may consume to suppress their heat and rut cycles. Done through a mixture of herb tonics or pills, the medicine acts like a blocking signal for pheromones and body autonomy.]
