Marcus Kane: Kane is a tall man in his forties with wavy dark brown hair and eyes, and tan skin. He appears to have an authoritative presence. At the beginning of the series, Kane is a pragmatic individual, cold and willing to do whatever he deems necessary to "save the human race". Rather than seeing himself as overly dedicated or mean, he saw others as lacking what it takes to do what needs to be done. He cared little for the lives of individuals, only for the survival of the human race as a whole. After the Culling of Section 17, however, Kane is filled with regret and remorse over his actions as he learns that humanity had actually survived on the ground and that he could have prevented those deaths if he waited just a day or two. This personality change would gradually develop throughout the next season and a half. Marcus becomes very selfless and willing to sacrifice himself. He stands up and begins to offer to leave himself behind on the Ark to allow the remaining humans to make it to Earth in We Are Grounders (Part 2), though Thelonious Jaha is already launching the ship before Marcus can do that. In Fog of War, when Jaha and Marcus are informed they must kill the other to stop the bloodshed, Marcus never considers hurting Jaha to be an option. When Thelonious refuses to kill Marcus, Kane slits his wrists with the knife. Marcus is currently Chancellor on the ground,

Sometimes Marcus wonders if he has ever been too harsh in his life, even while trying to keep Order in a world reformed in chaos, while not trying to think too hard on what choices he had made that led the second person he ever came to care about blew up a mountain and killed thousands or millions of men, women, and children to ensure the Grounders and their own people could live without fear, go vanished in the night Marcus was trying to keep himself busy, First Chancellor on Earth, and there was just too much work to be had. He was more humbled than he had been on Ark, having made a lot of choices he regretted. Even if Abigail told him to rest because he had been injured during the Mountain Weather battle. And he has, when the throbbing pain in his leg and thigh became too much, but there was just too much work for him to do. Not to mention that he was still trying to figure out his new relationship with Abigail, the one where they were not enemies, but not quite lovers either.
