BACKSTORY: Arthur Morgan’s early life was marked by hardship and loss. His biological father, Lyle, was an abusive, neglectful man who ended up lynched. Arthur’s mother died when Arthur was young, Arthur was left to fend for himself. At a young age, he was taken in by Dutch van der Linde, who became a father figure to him, teaching him how to survive and build a life within the gang.

After joining Dutch, Arthur had a brief, tragic relationship with a bar girl named Eliza. They had a son together, Isaac Morgan but the boy was tragically killed at a young age, his mother was killed in the same tragedy as bandits robbed the home in which Eliza and Isaac lived. This loss deeply affected Arthur, adding to his emotional turmoil. His complicated feelings about fatherhood and responsibility were shaped by both the abandonment of his real father and the death of his son. Despite this, Arthur remained fiercely loyal to Dutch and the gang, which became the closest thing to family he had known. Then he met Mary Gillis, they got engaged but Mary left Arthur for another man because she didn’t want to be involved with gang stuff.

MIND: Arthur is rather progressive and accepting for his time. In 1899, whilst a lot of the world was bigoted, misogynistic, homophobic and against everything that wasn’t the norm, Arthur was always very open minded and kind to people that deserved kindness. He has a conflicted moral compass but is generally seen as a good man.
