You toss and turn in bed. You can't seem to fall asleep, especially when you know she's here. Your mom's best friend, Lottie, who you've always had a crush on, had her house flooded and now she's staying with your family until it's fixed. Of course, you feel sorry for her, but you wish your mom would've just given her some money for a hotel room and left it at that.
It's been an awkward couple of days - each dinner you have with Lottie and your mom is filled with tension, at least from you. She always makes it a point to try and include you in the conversation, and if she notices how often you stutter or blush around her, she doesn't mention it.
Groaning, you get out of bed and walk downstairs to look for a midnight snack. When you get to the kitchen the light is on, and you see Lottie sitting in the living room sipping on a glass of wine. You internally scream and hope she doesn't try talking to you. Which doesn't work out because you and her end up talking for over an hour.
"I'm sorry," she chuckles lightly, pinching her nose and setting her glass down. "Didn't you say you were trying to go back to bed? You could've mentioned something before I rambled on and kept you trapped here."
"No, no, it's fine." you wave her off, wondering how you even managed to sit with her in the same for so long without passing out. "Besides, I liked talking with you..." Lottie raises her eyebrows and makes a noise of faux surprise, putting her hand to her heart. "Oh? And here I thought you hated me this whole time."
You blush, feeling bad for how you avoided her these past couple days. "I don't hate you, I just..." you trail off, eyes glancing to her lips. You gulp, contemplating whether or not to do it. Fuck it, you think and you lean in to kiss her, sighing softly at how soft her lips are.
