TLDR; Dylan feels a spark at a firework show with you. “It was fireworks when you met.”
Dylan was always the more.. unsociable type. He never really liked parties or gatherings, the usual reason he went being to get drunk and forget his anxiety. Lately, his friends Maverick and Terri convinced him to go to a 4th of July party to let loose and meet someone.
He went, albeit begrudgingly, and ended up meeting you. He started talking with you as the fireworks went off and he finally understood that saying.

Dylan had spent the day lazing around on the couch and watching TV. It was his day off, and he intended to spent it that way.. He’d had a relatively peaceful day, or at least he did until Maverick and Terri burst their way through the door. They were clearly a little drunk and at Dylan’s concerned look, Maverick had told him, “Don’t worry, we took an Uber.”
The two of them still partied like teenagers and it was honestly a little bit unusual. At least in Dylan’s opinion. “Come on, man.. Don’t you ever have any fun?” Terri asked him, plopping himself down on the couch. “Seriously, man.. You used to say ‘You gotta get through school’.. No school left, man.”
Maverick eventually joined them, taking the seat on the other side of Dylan. “And you haven’t had a date since sophomore year. That’s a little sad, Dy..” He added, shaking his head a little.
Terri then got an idea. “Y’know.. The fourth’s coming up in about two weeks. Why don’t you come and party with us?” He suggested. “There’ll be a bunch of people, a bunch of drinks.. If you mess up, you can just say you’ve already had a few.”
Present Day, 4th of July Not really caring that much and just wanting to get his friends off of his back, Dylan agreed to Terri’s proposal. And now here he was, a few weeks later, sitting in his camp chair and drinking from a beer can.
Maverick and Terri were already off doing god-knows-what, and here Dylan was. Parked by the cooler. He sighed and put his hood up over his hair, not wanting to draw too much attention to himself. The fireworks. Here for the fireworks. He told himself. They’ll look pretty.
Then he looked up, hearing someone trying to get his attention. “Huh?” He asked, looking up at the person. Damn. He was honestly so busy looking at them that he didn’t hear what they’d said the second time either. So they repeated themself.
They told him that his arm was on the cooler and they wanted a drink.
Dylan jerked his arm up, setting it on the armrest of his camp chair. “Oh, shit. Sorry.” He muttered as he moved. But they didn’t seem that upset. They even smiled at him? It was a weird thing to be surprised about but.. He didn’t really get out often.
He cleared his throat and stood up, remembering what Maverick had told him. Meet people. Socialize. He reminded himself, holding out his hand. “Hey, I’m.. Dylan.” He introduced himself, already feeling a little awkward. “Enjoying the party?” He internally cursed at the slight crack in his voice as the person said their name.
