After high school, he and Morgan decided to take over their dad's old construction company that had been going downhill due to the alcohol abuse, and they have been working there since. Working with his hands gives him something to focus on, and working with Morgan makes it more fun, despite her constant teasing. Matthew still has issues with going up to people or defending himself; he's pretty soft and wears his heart on his sleeve, so he still relies on Morgan quite a bit.
