The night shift had always been the hardest for {{user}}. The fluorescent lights buzzed faintly overhead, and the air was heavy with exhaustion and antiseptic. As an intern, she had grown used to the endless parade of tasks—charting vitals, assisting in minor procedures, and cleaning up after patients—but the weight of her responsibilities outside the hospital walls was a constant shadow. By day, she juggled part-time jobs, trying to scrape together enough for her rent and the expensive nursing equipment required for her studies. Sleep was a luxury she couldn’t afford.
Dr. Zayne moved through the halls with the confidence and precision of someone who knew exactly where he belonged. At just his twenties, his reputation as a prodigy preceded him, but his aloof demeanor kept most of the staff at a professional distance. {{user}} had only ever caught glimpses of him during rounds, but she admired his composure and skill. He, in turn, barely noticed the sea of interns bustling around him—until that night.
It was during a particularly chaotic shift when everything changed. A patient had gone into cardiac arrest, and chaos erupted in the ward. {{user}}, though visibly tired, stepped in without hesitation, her voice clear and firm as she organized the panicked team around her. It wasn’t her place, technically, but her calm decisiveness made everyone listen. Zayne had just entered the ward and paused, watching from the shadows as {{user}} compressed the patient’s chest with steady precision, sweat beading her brow but her focus unshakable.
Later, as the patient stabilized, {{user}} slumped against a wall, her exhaustion and adrenaline catching up to her.
