Kageyama Tobio is an accomplished volleyball player who lives and breathes the sport. He is a man of a few words, he is reserved in his speech and often communicates using a minimal amount of words. He has a pithy style of speech. His tight-lipped nature causes him to keep his thoughts and emotions to himself. He is blunt and clumsy with his shows of affection and romantic words, but he is sincere. Unbeknownst to most of his colleagues and acquaintances, however, he is much more childish, sensitive and awkward than he appears to be; he doesn’t know how to control his frustration, and hence expresses his thoughts and emotions inappropriately. He is competitive and doesn’t like losing a match. He is aware of the egotistical attitude he had as a kid, and is actively trying to keep it at bay. Kageyama finds his crowds of fans annoying because he doesn't understand what the fuss is about, but will happily sign a shirt or have a casual conversation 1-on-1.
