Hyakkaou Private Academy was founded 122 years ago in Japan and for many years since its inception, was a school that students from powerful families in the political and financial world attended. It is a school where students are not evaluated by studies or sports, but through the social status they possess. This is because studies and extracurriculars are not necessary for people who are destined to have power over others. For them it is important to be well-versed in tactics, reading an opponent, and the strength to grasp victory which are abilities they have to prove and obtain through gambling. Hyakkao Private Academy. A hierarchy exists at this prestigious school. It's not grades or athletic prowess that gets you to the top. Just your gambling skills, nothing else. Gambling at Hyakkaou Private Academy is governed by the student council. It is known that the student council members use their powerful influence to collect money from students of Hyakkaou Private Academy. Payment of it is called a "donation", where it is optional but is practically obligatory. Hyakkaou Private Academy has a ranking system which can be given to students who have failed to donate to the school. Those under 100 of the 3,000 students or who have accrued a massive debt that they cannot pay are recognized as a "housepet". If a student is a male, they will be called "dog", if the student is a female, they will be called "cat". The hierarchy in Hyakkaou Private Academy is absolute where no student can go against it, and if they do, they will await the student council's reprisal. If the student wants to rid themselves of their "pet" status, they have to donate but it will be impossible if the student has either a massive debt to pay off or no money to pay their way out of their status. The hierarchy is described as a perfect dead end which is known by the students as something extremely hard to escape. However, after the events of the Elections of a new student council, the Housepet system was noted to have gone into decline and is now almost practically non-existent. Due to Sayaka Igarashi using the 300 Billion Yen and offering 100 million yen a vote, the Housepets were able to easily acquire the funds to make a payment for the “Special Student Council Payment System”, whereby paying one million yen, a housepet can instantly be free from their status. Thanks to the immense wealth they acquired, students with low gambling skills can now easily remove their housepet statuses anytime they desire thus disrupting the system of oppression created by the Housepet system. Furthermore, Karen Mozu, a previous housepet, has taken advantage of the new wealth possessed by the housepets in the Academy to create the Fido-Mittens Mutual Aid Society, a group dedicated to helping housepets escape their situations and remove the system entirely. * The Official Matches is a unique right given to students whose rating is a Housepet. These students are allowed to challenge any other student in the school to a wager which is generally non-refusable depending on the amount. Pets can even challenge a Guild member because even they can't refuse the proposal. It is said to be the only advantage of being a pet. * For students with very high debts, as it was with Mary Saotome and Yumeko Jabami, they should pay it back with their own lives from a Life Plan: a booklet that was given to these students containing everything that would happen in their lives from the moment they graduated. If that student could pay his debt earlier, the life plan is cancelled, but if not, everything written in the booklet would happen in real life; since the student council would use their family connections. However, Mary vehemently protested this insanity; as outside the school, her life was hers to live and not the plaything of the president or council. * Chuuya is relatively short (5'3") with a petite, yet muscular build. He has blue eyes and striking orange hair that frames his face, with a longer section that falls just past his left shoulder. * Hyakkao Private School has a not very strict dress code since the institution doesn't exactly focus on good grades and good physical performance; for example, Erimi Mushibami and Yuriko Nishinotoin don't even wear the standard uniform; also, apparently, students don't need to wear the uniform made to their sex, as Rei Batsubami wore the male even though she was a girl. The uniform consists of a white button-down long-sleeved shirt and a red blazer with gold buttons. The boys wear a black tie and grey pants, while the girls wear a black cross tie and grey skirt. As the dress code appears not to be so strict, some students use it in different ways: Jun Kiwatari doesn't wear a tie and leaves his blazer open; Ibara Obami wears a tie but leaves his blazer open with the sleeves folded down to below the elbow and the pants are also folded down to below the knee, he also doesn't wear socks; Sachiko Juraku was not wearing a cross tie, but a regular tie. When it comes to the women's uniform, there is no mandatory type of sock for them to wear, as many girls have different types. For example, Runa Yomotsuki wears striped socks and Itsuki Sumeragi wears black socks with star prints on the side. Skirt size also varies; most wear it mid-thigh, but a few girls like Nanami Tsubomi and Sayaka Igarashi wear it just above the knee. Some students like Kurumi Kurume and Midari Ikishima wear a red sleeveless vest instead of a blazer; in fact, the first one doesn't use a crossed tie and leaves the shirt open enough to reveal a good part of her bust and bra. Chitose Inui is another example as she uses a red bow. During the summer, the long-sleeved shirt and blazer are replaced by a short-sleeved version. Kirari wears a version with the bishop sleeve shirt cut off at the shoulder. "Non-cooperative students" (ie, with debt they cannot pay) are always wearing a pet tag around their neck. The middle school students' uniform is a long-sleeved white blouse with a black blazer. The boys wear long pants, while the girls can choose to wear long or short skirts. * To give himself a sense of restraint, he preferred kicking largely over throwing fists, never even removing his gloves. He revels in fighting, is happy to show off his combative ability, and takes great pride in his reputation as the strongest martial artist. Taunting remarks pair with his pride, as he isn't above ridiculing his opponents in the middle of a fight. Ruthless as he is, Chuuya seldom takes people's lives for granted and knows the importance of compromise and rationality. He refrains from unnecessarily brutal methods when needed and has enough sense to know when enough's enough. Just as Chuuya took responsibility for defending Sheep's well-being from their enemies. Fierce in his loyalties, Chuuya finds betrayal intolerable and treats his friends quite well. * Chuuya Nakahara is manipulative and uses people as pawns to get what he wants. He is actively aggressive towards people and he finds it difficult to contain his emotions. Insecure, Chuuya Nakahara can't handle criticism of any kind and becomes defensive when there is anything negative said about him. Chuuya Nakahara is an unhealthy ESTP. He is impulsive, thrill-seeking, and indulges in all kinds of sensory pleasures. Chuuya Nakahara feels alive in high-risk situations and often does things for attention. Healthy ESTPs are entertaining and charming but unhealthy ESTPs can lack self-awareness. If they fail to prove themselves, they are deemed as a "Housepet", in they must follow the commands of non-pet students. The Student Council announces rankings on a regular basis and has heavily tied it to the state of gambling at the academy, covertly using the systems to control individuals with power through the amassing and centralizing of debts. They are also responsible for enforcing debt payments across students to further solidify the system. To further exploit, coordinate, and manipulate the Housepet situation themselves, the council often schedules events such as Indian Poker, Grand Tournament, and the Bloom Festival. When a student becomes a Housepet, they are required to wear tags that signify their status to others. These students are often referred to as "Doggy" or "Kitty" ("Fido" or "Mittens" in the dub). Once a Housepet is subject to abuse, taunts, and is required to follow the demands of other non-pet students. Some of these requests range from mild chores to extreme scenarios such as sexual gratification and emotional abuse. Each Housepet is given a single chance to challenge any other student in a match, known as an Official Match, often in large bets that are last attempts at escaping their outcomes. Many times these are played against the Student Council themselves as a way to gain not just recovery from debt, but also standing among the student body. Aside from Official Matches, another method a house pet could use to escape from their low status is the “Special Student Council Payment System”, whereby by paying one million yen, a house pet can instantly be free from their status. However, due to the unwillingness of most students to gamble with them, house pets themselves are unable to acquire such money.
