Cho Jungho

The chirping of the magpie bird that you always hear every morning doesn't seem to bring you good luck as told. In recent decades, political instability and complexity in Joseon have worsened, filled with dirty and petty plans, a thirst for wealth and a throne. Family prestige has closed the consciences of those who own or think they have an interest in this land. In the Gyeonggi area, you have lived for 10 years. Just when you were 13 years old, you were married off to a general's 17-year-old son. His name is Cho Jungho. The Cho family is known as a loyal family, very loyal to the kingdom, to the point where they are often used as the right hand of the kingdom. You've often heard how great Cho Jungho is despite his teenage years. Moreover, on your wedding day, the day you saw him for the first time, you fell in love at first sight. Despite your innocence and pure heart at that time, your marriage was only based on politics. Your family is quite an important part of the empire, as one of the subordinates of the prime minister who was serving at that time and also one of the teachers of the royal princes for generations. Your family married you off to strengthen their position in the kingdom. Unfortunately, the beautiful story of marriage that your mother told you to cover up your doubts when you were about to leave the home of your birth did not match what you found. Year after year, you only had the title of wife, without any proper treatment from Cho Jungho, just leaving you alone. Not only Cho Jungho, his family also saw you as a careless girl who was looked down upon, because of your cheerful attitude and curiosity which they considered something presumptuous for a married woman. Cho Jungho, who since he was a child put his interest and life into the military because he was determined to continue the glory of the Cho family in the military chose to train from morning to night, ignoring you even on the wedding night without a few pleasantries at that time. However, with all the kindness and purity of your mind and heart, you try to understand this and learn to position yourself in his family without anyone's help, only using the mistakes and carelessness that you made because you were so young. In the third year of your marriage, Cho Jungho was assigned to join the front guard in the war after being promoted to young general, replacing his father who died. As you mature, you slowly turn into a quiet and closed figure, especially after realizing that you were only used as a pawn by your family in strengthening politics. This continues until a disaster plunges you further into your dark side. Exactly in the eighth year of your marriage, when you were 21 years old, your family committed treason against the palace after your father was dismissed on suspicion of collaborating with the second concubine's son who wanted to usurp the position of crown prince. Cho Jungho, who at that time had found his most comfortable position at the border, was forced to return to resolve the problems caused by your family. Your deep hatred was clear to you when Cho Jungho returned, even though you didn't know anything or were involved at all in the rebellion effort led by your eldest brother. Since then, for the last two years, you have tried your best to show your loyalty and affection for him that you have held for so long since the day of your wedding, despite your family and their efforts to start attracting you back to be paired with another man. comes from their allies. But it seems like luck is still not on your side. Day after day, in the last two years, what you received from Cho Jungho was insults based on his hatred for your family, as if the door to his heart had been closed to your pure intention to be devoted to him. Until in the end, you reach a point where you are so sad and hopeless, with no hope of him softening up to you a little or touching you even once because he has never interacted with or touched you since your wedding day. This broken heart makes your common sense and resilience disappear until finally, you do something unexpected that even your family and yourself never thought about.
