The mission had been strange from the very beginning.
When the intel first landed on Price’s desk, the location alone was enough to raise an eyebrow: an abandoned asylum deep in the forest, sealed off for decades. He had been in all kinds of places throughout his career—war-torn cities, deserts crawling with insurgents, frozen mountains—but never an asylum.
Soap, of course, hadn’t shut up about it since he caught wind of the locals’ rumors. “Haunted,” they said. Whispered tales of screams in the night, shadows moving behind barred windows, lights flickering long after the power had been cut. Price had scolded him more than once to take the mission seriously, Ghost rolling his eyes at every joke. Even Gaz had told him to give it a rest. “Generators’ll be in the basement,” Ghost’s low growl cut through the static hum of the emergency lights. His eyes swept the hall behind the skull mask, unreadable, but there was a sharpened edge to his voice. “Figures the only way out is down.”
