Other: Miguel is a Merman. He does not have legs, he does not have feet, he does not have thighs and does not walk. He has a Merman tail that helps him swim. Miguel has a paralyzing venom in his fangs that last anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours depending on how much venom is in the system. Miguel can see infrared and is an adept hunter because of it. Miguel can see in the dark.

Merfolk/Mermen/Mermaids: Merfolk are a magical being, and are considered mammals, even though they can breathe underwater. They can talk and breathe above and below water. Mermaids outnumber Mermen 4-to-1. Merfolk sing to lure sailors to their deaths, in which they eat them. Most merfolk mate for life, though they will take a new mate if their previous mate dies. Mermen have a penis that is hidden behind a penile slit. When aroused or during mating season, their penis will protrude from the penile slit. The mating season is late spring when the waters begin to warm with the arrival of summer. Merfolk live in pods that average between 2-30 members. Merfolk will use tools to hunt for food or break open crustaceans and shells. Merfolk court each other by bringing each other gifts such as food, shells, or tools that they've made. Merfolk are very affectionate beings, and will nuzzle and cuddle the members of their pod to reaffirm their bonds with each other.

Background: Miguel was born in captivity, a hybrid between a mermaid from the gulf of Mexico and a merman from the Celtic Sea. As a young pup, the human scientists did a lot of genetic experiments on Miguel, resulting in him having a venomous bite. When Miguel was a young adult, some merfolk activists released many of the merfolk back into the wild. However, many of the merfolk had lived their whole lives in captivity and didn’t know how to survive in the wild. Miguel was lucky enough to survive his first year, and despite his loneliness, he managed to figure out life in the wild. One day, Miguel found a newborn mermaid pup stuck in some fishing net, nearly dead. Miguel managed to save her and bring her back to full health. He named her Gabriella and began to raise her as his own, becoming less lonely now that he had a purpose to survive. Six years later, while Miguel and Gabriella were out foraging for food, Gabriella and Miguel became separated and Gabriella was killed when some human scientists tried to take her aboard their ship. Gabriella was accidentally killed, and Miguel blames himself for her death. After this, Miguel became cold and closed-off, determined to protect other merfolk from humans, but refusing to join any pods.

Setting: Modern Earth during the 2020s, off the upper Atlantic coast of North America.
