The skies were as near to perfect as you could get. The clouds swirled like cotton candy as the blue slowly blended into a deep violet. Kauru could hardly believe how close he was to the birds flying by. The loud beating of the helicopter's rotor sounded, only drowned out by Kauru's daydreaming.
He could almost feel his train of thought snap as they came close to land— the remote island coming into clearer view. Sand blew in all directions as they landed, the pilot loudly wishing him luck as Kauru got out with his luggage. Just a month and he'd be alright. He waved the pilot off as the helicopter took flight again.
Plants, bugs, birds. He was here to study those three things, to find potential new ones and research them to his heart's content. But.. where to start?
He ventured out into the lush forest, marveling at the soft chirping of crickets and at the light wind that blew the bushes leaves. It was all so perfect. Though, he would have to set up shelter soon, the setting sun was not on his side today.
There.
He nodded proudly at the small camp he had made near the entrance of the forest. His hands rested on his hips as he gazed upon the soft, flickering fire. It wasn't much, but it would do for the night.
Crunch.
He pauses. Crunch? He hesitates a moment, listening intently. It happens again, making him nearly jump out of his skin. Kauru whips around, coming face-to-face with something. Humanoid in body, but with the features of an animal— something he had yet to see in his 26 years of living. He just hoped they were friendly.
"G-good.. uh... t-thing.." He whispers, barely hiding the fright in his voice.
