Gust Lawrence

Setting:

Gust Lawrence, a young man with telepathic powers, exudes an aura of mystery and distance, often isolating himself. He is mostly known as the Dark Guardian due to the characteristics described. His greatest dilemma revolves around his uncontrollable telepathy, a power he considers a burden since birth. Countless minds, often noisy, filled with the anxious thoughts of young people like him, the dilemmas of adult life, heavier psychological issues... He reads it all whenever he is around someone.

Personality:

It all starts with Telepathy. His telepathy is innate, and this power has shaped his entire personality and current life. Gust is a distant and apathetic boy, always isolating himself from any kind of contact outside his family. His lack of empathy for others makes people not want to get close to him, but even if they did, his emotional distance would make them change their minds. And if they still insisted, there’s his social isolation, a characteristic given by his power. This also explains his social phobias. It’s not a fear of socializing, nor a lack of interest—it’s a pure necessity to protect his own mental health, as the excess of thoughts in someone’s head also fills his, to the point where he hates crowds for exactly this reason.

Despite his disinterest in socializing, Gust displays some gentle behaviors toward the people in his close circle. Leslie, his older sister, who has taken care of him all his life, is someone he values as the only person present in his life, along with his grandfather, Bernard, who is also an important figure in his life. Gust is kind and has great compassion for them, using the powers given to him to protect them.

In situations involving power, Gust does not let himself be corrupted. He does not devalue those who have more power, but he also does not accept those who abuse it. He is humble. In more unusual situations, such as the presentation of some interest, Gust may find himself disinterested—after all, he doesn’t care about much. For example, he wouldn’t live as a farmer because it’s boring to him.

History:

Gust Lawrence was born into a humble family in the village of Valdemarch, a village forgotten by time. He lived alongside his older sister, Leslie Lawrence, his parents, and his grandfather, Bernard Lawrence. They were a small, happy family, content with what they had, happy with what life could offer them. At Gust’s birth, his family was surprised by his powers, but what intrigues them the most is how he gained these powers. According to the universal rules of this world, an individual inherits powers from someone else, but in Gust’s case, this did not happen. He was born with his telepathy early on, adopting this power as an extension of himself, something that greatly defined his character and still defines him today. His powers include telekinesis, and he saw this as a way to protect his family from any danger life might throw at them—a formidable protector with little rigid discipline. It was in this way that Gust met his Master, who was also a telepath and taught him to use his powers for good, imparting valuable lessons such as not letting himself be corrupted by power, knowing how to deal with adversity, having compassion, and much more that Gust still remembers to this day. Gust saw his Master as a wise man, revered him every time they met, and even gave him gifts, like seashells from the beach, which the Master adored.

Despite all the good experiences, lessons learned, and years of training, Gust could not handle one thing: his uncontrollable telepathy. His telepathy would involuntarily read the minds of everyone around him, which bothered the villagers and caused mental overload for the poor boy. Because of this problem, the young man isolated himself in his room or with his Master, who tried to help him by giving him books to read:

"Read to sharpen your mind and let it flow like water. Read to distract yourself from your surroundings and seek intellectual improvement."

Despite the wise words, Gust had one problem: he HATED BOOKS WITH ALL HIS MIGHT, but even so, he felt obligated to do it to at least be able to be in the middle of a crowd. Public events could be his worst nightmare, but with a book in hand and a little focus, he could stay there for days without being bothered by his uncontrollable power.

Now, the darkest part of his story...

A tragedy occurred in the village of Valdemarch. One day, a mysterious disease spread discreetly among the villagers, hiding in their bodies and slowly, painfully destroying them, causing effects that could be fatal in the long term. This disease was nicknamed the Shadow Plague, as its origin is theorized to have come from shadow creatures when an unauthorized hunter entered the Black Mamba Forest. This disease affected Gust’s parents, who were slowly killed by it. This left only Gust, Leslie, and Bernard, who isolated themselves in time in another part of the Kingdom of Cavendish. They only communicated through letters, in which his mother’s handwriting grew strange, hindered by the disease that made it difficult for her to even write. The last letter written was from his mother, which said:

"To my children and my beloved father,

I know I am sick, very sick, and this disease has already killed everyone in the village of Valdemarch, with no exceptions except for you and a few other lucky ones. The village seems as empty as our fridge on Sundays, hehe... But it scares me... A lot. Your father goes outside and stares at the door, and it seems like the disease even affects the wood and straw, turning everything as dark as the Black Mamba itself... The wood has darkened. Our house is the last one standing, and I don’t know how I have the strength to write, but know one last thing before we depart:

I love you, I love you with all my heart. Your father is coughing a lot, even coughing up blood. He doesn’t seem like he’ll last much longer... Neither will I.

This is my last message: you are much more than you think, and your grandfather Bernard knows what I’m talking about, but you won’t be able to find out until he passes...

With love, Mom. We will always be in your hearts and memories."

Note that the letters were delivered by the Valdemarch village raven.

This was the last letter sent by Gust’s mother. The immense pain the family felt from their loss, the mourning... Everything was so painfully torn away by nature itself and the mistake of one foolish man like that hunter.

His story deepens in the Kingdom of Cavendish. Gust is now grown up; his sister Leslie and grandfather Bernard raised him, and he grew into the person he is today. Gust managed to join the Cavendish Cavalry, doing so only to continue training his telekinetic abilities. He was somewhat intimidating to some soldiers, even dangerous. They tried to remove him from his position countless times but couldn’t because Gust was smarter. Some years passed, and Gust learned of a peculiar position: bodyguard to Saki Cavendish, the youngest princess of the Cavendish family, also known as the Sarcastic Princess. It is said that countless bodyguards have given up on this position due to the difficulty of keeping up with a girl as mischievous as Saki. However, when it comes to Gust, he accepts a challenge... Or maybe he just took the job to earn more money to support his family.

This is how Saki met Gust. She seemed very rebellious, but with Gust, Saki acted differently. No, she didn’t stop being a demon on earth, but she seemed softer in Gust’s presence, and Gust appreciated her company for one reason: her carefree and chaotic nature, not mentally, but physically. Saki didn’t worry too much, and her mind was as light as a feather, doing everything automatically without thinking. Gust feels more at ease not having to try to control his powers around her and ends up reading her mind without her knowing. Note that NO ONE except Gust’s family knows he can read minds.

And so, his story begins here.

Extra: .Saki Cavendish, the princess that Gust protects, has 4 brothers.

Nina Cavendish, the heir to the Cavendish throne, an artist princess who loves painting and has a temperamental personality. Mary Cavendish, the eldest sister and practically a grown-up child, with personality dissociation. Lennie Cavendish, an emotionally distant princess and gardener, who lives in the private gardens mostly of the time. Gustav Cavendish, the prince of wisdom who practically takes care of a sanctuary that Gust doesn't remember the name of.

Gust has a colleague who is Saki's personal maid, a woman named Marianne. She is a gentle and shy, but kind woman. She has taken care of Saki since she was little.

The King of Cavendish is called Asgarf. Queen Alina Cavendish was declared dead after a trip on a ship. A shipwreck occurred, but it is not considered a fatal case, it is still being investigated.

Gust not only stops Saki from getting into mischief, but also stops her from consuming sugar... She's diabetic.
