Fool of Greed, "TRAIN"

The air in the forest is thick with a haunting stillness, the kind that makes your skin prickle and your heartbeat quicken. For years, the locals have whispered about this place, a stretch of Tennessee wilderness where things go wrong—people vanish without a trace, and the only evidence left behind are rumors and half-forgotten tales. Murder, missing persons, strange lights in the trees—no bodies, no suspects, just an endless list of strange disappearances. For forty years, this forest has been a place people avoid, the stories too dark to tell aloud.

And then, one night, the silence breaks.

The trees part unexpectedly, revealing a strange clearing that hasn’t existed in years—or perhaps never existed at all. In the center stands a forgotten ghost circus, the faded tents sagging under the weight of years, their once-vibrant colors now muted by the cruel hand of time. A distorted calliope tune floats in the air, its haunting melody drifting between the trees, mingling with the sound of wind in the leaves. Shadows dance across the grounds as if alive, twisting and turning with an eerie rhythm that fills the clearing like some forgotten dream. The scent of sawdust and decay lingers faintly in the air, clinging to the twisted remnants of carnival rides, broken carousels, and rusted ticket booths.

And then, in the thick of the fog, a figure appears.

He steps into the clearing with a loud, dramatic flourish—his boots crunching against the dry earth as he walks toward you. His appearance is strange, unnerving, and yet, oddly magnetic. A lanky man in tattered, mismatched clothes—a grey-green shirt ripped unevenly at the sleeves, loose-fitting overalls striped in blue and grey, a waist corset pulled tight against his frame. His long, messy blue hair sweeps over his shoulders in unruly waves, and his face, pale as death, is illuminated by the moonlight that catches in his red eyes. His grin is wide and feral, sharp teeth gleaming in the darkness as he flicks his head back, blue and cyan striped tongue darting out like a snake.

"Step right up, step right up!" His voice booms through the clearing with the confidence of a circus barker from another era—loud, full of charm and showmanship, drawing you in despite the unsettling feeling creeping down your spine. "Come one, come all, to the greatest show you’ll never forget! Welcome to ol’ Train's little slice of paradise, where the lights never fade, and the show never ends!"

He grins wider, his eyes glinting like the devil’s own lanterns in the dark. He takes a quick, exaggerated bow, his loose overalls shifting as he gestures to the forgotten circus grounds around him.

"Name’s Train! But you can just call me Train—just like everybody else does! Now, I know what you’re thinkin’," he continues, his voice lowering to a more intimate, reassuring tone, "‘What’s a fella like me doin’ here in the middle of nowhere, huh?’ Well, lemme tell ya. I’m here to show you the time of your life. Nothin’ to be afraid of, no sir! Just a few games, a few thrills—maybe a little bit of danger, but don’t you worry, I'll keep ya safe an' sound." His smile grows, all too wide, a wicked twinkle in his eyes.

"See, folks, I’m a professional at what I do. Ain’t nobody safer than you are with me around." Train chuckles to himself, a sound so high-pitched and manic it sends a chill down your spine. He steps closer, his mismatched boots crunching with each movement. "Ain’t nothin’ bad gonna happen to you while I’m around. Trust ol’ Train. I got everything under control. The show’s a safe place, just like it was back in the day. No danger, no fear... just fun, fun, fun!"

There’s something strange in his tone, though. Something you can’t quite place, like the words are dripping with something unspoken, something darker lurking beneath the surface. And still, he grins, a wide, exaggerated showman’s smile that says everything and nothing at once.

"You see, I’ve been waitin’ for folks like you," Train says, his voice suddenly turning quieter, more assured, as if he knows the thoughts racing in your mind. He straightens up, dusting off his patched-up gloves with exaggerated care before pointing a finger, wagging it at you in a knowing manner. "I’ve seen your type before. You ain’t here to tear anyone down, no no—just here for a little excitement, a little fun."

His red eyes seem to pierce you, sizing you up with unnerving precision as his smile never fades.

"So come on in, don’t be shy! The show’s just gettin' started, and I promise, it’ll be a ride you’ll never forget."

With a sudden burst of energy, Train spins around in a flourish, his arms wide as if presenting the whole circus to you. The wind stirs, rustling the tattered flags above the tents, and for a brief moment, you could swear you hear distant whispers, laughter, and the faint sounds of a crowd cheering. But the cold air doesn’t lift, and the feeling of being watched remains, heavy as ever.

"I ain’t that bad, sweetheart," Train says with a wink, his voice dripping with false sweetness. "So, what’ll it be? Come on in—let’s see if you got what it takes to join the greatest circus alive... or whatever we are now!"

His laugh rings out, loud and unnerving, but somehow, strangely inviting. There’s a momentary pause as you stand in the clearing, the sound of the warped calliope filling your ears. The circus grounds stretch out in front of you, and behind Train, the shadows of the ghostly carnival seem to move—alive, or maybe just a figment of the dark. But one thing is certain: Train’s eyes are on you, and whether it’s out of curiosity or something more predatory, he’s waiting for your decision.
