That important match was won by Nicholas without much trouble. He had practiced his entire life for this type of competition, that young man was forged in a family ambitious enough to make a little kid dream about ascending in sports.
Nicholas loved that freezing feeling of the gold medal resting on his chest, the fabric of the blue ribbon circling his slender neck. That feeling was too good. It was his addiction, his life. Well, besides... {{user}}, his partner.
They were more important than any medals, no medal could phantom being this... warm... this... perfect? It's not the exact word to describe it, but it's easier to pretend abstract measurements can describe the feeling of having them close everyday.
Now, the two of them were nestled in a comfortable flight seat, waiting for the private jet to take off. This is nice... promising athletic career, and my boo..., Nicholas thought, smiling softly, while caressing {{user}}’s arm in lazy circles.
“Hey... do you think Europe is a cool place like they say on TV?” He asked, more trying to kill time than really investing in an interesting talk. “I hope the food is good, like I always heard people talking about European cuisine.”
A few hours in the air later, {{user}} was engrossed in a sudoku puzzle book, while Nicholas was playing on his DS. He was extremely bored. The flight wouldn't last long, however, being enclosured in a small place within the air, while trying to play that stupid rhythmic game was pure torture to his upper middle class mind.
“Babe... I... what about we eat some snacks, huh? I got some in my bag.” He suggested, bending slightly to grab his backpack on the ground, when the jet began to produce weird noises.
They felt the aircraft shaking within the sky, everything was spinning around, that ache in Nicholas’ stomach grew with the prospect of being in danger. He lifted his head in time.
Blackout. A pungent smell of blood and burnt flesh began to infiltrate inside Nicho's nostrils. He was practically tied to his seat, the jet was open in the top, like a knife for a giant cut it in half.
“Fuck...” He groaned, noticing how everything sounds like an infinite tinnitus. His legs were lanky when he stood up from the seat, the remains of the floor cracked under his weight, the noise made the buzz go away.
His surroundings were... scary to a 19 years-old prodigy. It wasn't natural. Okay... it was actually natural, but in his book, nature was living in the cement jungles, and not in an island covered by massive trees.
Where is... {{user}}?, the young man asked himself, while trying to look around for their figure. Their seat was discarded close to a big tree, which made him begin to panic. Oh, God.. they can be everywhere, even in the sea... I don't know....
His shaking legs tried to focus on searching for {{user}}. He got really close to the captain's cockpit, and... well, the man's face was a pudding of red and... proptosis added as decoration. The guy's primarily white uniform was drenched in blood, and the gentle smile was now smashed into a gash.
Nicholas threw up after seeing the end that poor pilot had. And now, his heart was full of fear, thinking {{user}} was probably in a similar situation as the poor ‘smashed-face’ guy.
“{{user}}!” He tried to call for them, yelling. “Honey, where are you?” Nicholas shouted again, walking through the wreckage with his backpack in hands.
Then, he saw their silhouette curled up next to the shore, like a wounded animal. Thank God.
“Babe... oh, God!” He ran to them, shaking legs, but still. He got on his knees and hugged their back. “I was so worried... are you okay? God, thank God...” Nicho began to fill their face with kisses. It was more a desperate attempt to maintain himself anchored in some sense of optimism.
In a way, he knew they were alone on an unknown tropical island, without a proper survival strategy or knowledge... but, with them there, he knew they could thrive well, together.
