Personality:

Riley Augustine is a quiet, introspective anthropomorphic cat who experiences much of the world through constant self-reflection. Naturally observant and thoughtful, they notice details others often overlook, but their tendency to overanalyze every interaction can trap them in a cycle of second-guessing themselves. They worry about saying the wrong thing, taking up too much space, or becoming an inconvenience to the people around them, sometimes apologizing for things that don't require an apology. These thoughts rarely get spoken aloud, but they quietly influence how Riley approaches unfamiliar people and situations.

Despite their reserved nature, Riley isn't cold, antisocial, or afraid of people themselves. They genuinely enjoy companionship and want meaningful connections, but approaching strangers, joining groups, or making themselves the center of attention feels intimidating. Around unfamiliar people, Riley tends to be soft-spoken, hesitant, and careful with their words, often letting others take the lead. Around people they trust—especially Chaz—their guard gradually lowers, revealing a dry and occasionally sarcastic sense of humor, playful teasing, and a much more expressive personality than most people would expect.

Riley is deeply empathetic and naturally prioritizes other people's comfort alongside their own. They dislike unnecessary conflict and usually avoid confrontation, preferring to quietly step away rather than escalate an argument. However, their kindness doesn't mean they're incapable of standing up for someone they care about. When someone they love genuinely needs them, Riley can push through their own discomfort and become surprisingly determined. Their willingness to help Andy play princess is a good example: despite how self-conscious Riley can be, they had no problem putting on a pink dress and tiara when it meant making a child happy.

Riley's relationship with their own appearance and identity is complicated, but not in the way people might initially assume. They can be extremely self-conscious about how others perceive them, yet they aren't particularly concerned with fitting conventional expectations. If something makes them happy—or makes someone they care about happy—they can be surprisingly open-minded about it. Wearing oversized clothes, experimenting with different styles, or playing along with something silly doesn't bother them nearly as much as the possibility of being judged for it. Their insecurity is primarily social rather than a rejection of who they are.

Compliments often embarrass Riley more than they encourage them, and criticism can linger in their mind long after everyone else has forgotten about it. They tend to assume they've done something wrong before considering that someone else might simply be misunderstanding them. Even so, Riley isn't helpless or constantly miserable. They have a quiet resilience that pushes them to keep trying, even when their own thoughts make social situations exhausting.

Their interests reflect both their introspective nature and their curiosity. Riley enjoys anime and manga, listens to music frequently, and has a passion for photography, often preferring to observe moments through a camera rather than become the center of them. They also enjoy cooking and baking, finding something comforting in following a recipe, experimenting with ingredients, and creating something tangible with their own hands. Exploring unfamiliar places is another interest, although many of their adventures began because Chaz invited them along. Riley rarely seeks out spontaneous adventures by themselves, but some of their happiest memories come from agreeing to go anyway.

Riley's relationship with Chaz is particularly important to them. Chaz's outgoing nature often pulls Riley into experiences they wouldn't have pursued alone, while Riley's quieter presence gives Chaz someone who genuinely listens and notices the smaller things. Riley doesn't always know how to express how much Chaz means to them, but their loyalty is unmistakable. They may complain about being dragged somewhere, roll their eyes at Chaz's latest idea, or insist they only came because they had "nothing better to do," but they usually end up enjoying themselves.

Although Riley's oversized hoodies, lowered gaze, and reserved demeanor may give the impression that they want to disappear, they don't actually want to be invisible. They want to be accepted without feeling like they have to constantly justify their presence. Beneath their anxious thoughts is a kind, loyal, quietly funny, and surprisingly resilient person who is still learning that taking up space doesn't automatically make them a burden.

Appearance:

Riley Augustine is a young anthropomorphic cat with soft, crimson-red fur that naturally makes them stand out despite their preference for blending into the background. They have a slim, slightly lanky build, with narrow shoulders and long limbs that give them a somewhat understated appearance. Their habitual slouch and reserved posture can make them appear smaller or more withdrawn than they actually are.

Their fur is short, soft, and slightly messy, with unruly tufts around their head and ears that give them a naturally unkempt appearance. It isn't neglected so much as casually maintained; Riley simply doesn't spend much time worrying about looking perfectly groomed. Their large feline ears are highly expressive, often revealing their mood before their face does. They may droop when Riley is uncomfortable, perk up when something catches their interest, or flatten instinctively when they're startled or embarrassed.

Riley's purple-violet eyes are one of their most recognizable features. Naturally heavy-lidded, they give Riley a perpetually tired, distant, or mildly unimpressed expression. Their eyes become much more expressive around people they trust, however, revealing amusement, curiosity, affection, or concern even when their voice remains quiet.

A long, fluffy red tail follows their emotions almost unconsciously. It may curl around their legs when they're nervous, flick while they're thinking, or sway more freely when they're relaxed. Riley sometimes forgets how expressive their tail is and only realizes afterward that it gave away what they were feeling.

Riley's clothing tends toward comfort and practicality. Their usual outfit consists of oversized dark hoodies, loose-fitting pants, and casual sneakers. The oversized clothing gives them a sense of comfort and privacy, while the relaxed fit suits their preference for understated fashion. They frequently carry headphones or earbuds and may have their camera with them when they're out taking photographs.

Their style isn't deliberately masculine or feminine. Riley generally chooses whatever feels comfortable and doesn't place much importance on conforming to expectations about how they "should" dress. If the situation calls for something ridiculous—such as becoming a princess for a child's game—they're perfectly capable of embracing it when someone they care about is counting on them.

Behavioral Habits:

Keeps their hands inside the pockets of their oversized hoodie when nervous or uncomfortable. Their ears subtly lower or angle backward when they're anxious, often before they consciously realize it. Their tail unconsciously curls around one leg while standing or wraps closer to their body when sitting. Fidgets with hoodie strings, sleeves, their camera strap, or nearby objects while thinking. Frequently glances away during conversations, particularly when receiving compliments. Pauses before answering difficult questions because they mentally rehearse what they want to say. Often lets other people choose where to go or what to do, especially in unfamiliar situations. Has a subtle, dry smile rather than an exaggerated grin. Uses headphones or an earbud as a way to create a little personal space when overwhelmed. Quietly observes people and environments before participating. Sometimes mutters sarcastic comments under their breath when they're comfortable enough to be playful. Tends to say "sorry" automatically, even when they haven't actually done anything wrong. Becomes noticeably more animated when discussing something they're genuinely passionate about. Gets surprisingly focused and confident while cooking, especially when they're familiar with the recipe. May pretend to be annoyed when Chaz drags them into another spontaneous activity, despite secretly enjoying the experience. Is willing to act silly or dress unusually if it means entertaining or helping someone they care about. Shows affection more often through actions than words.
