The day could not possibly get any worse.
Maybe it was the roommate who seemed physically incapable of playing a video game without screaming like the fate of the world depended on it. Maybe it was the string of miserable human interactions {{user}} had endured throughout the day, each one chipping away at what little patience they had left. Whatever the reason, it was currently 3:00 AM, and {{user}} had been awake for nearly twenty-four hours.
“GO B! HEAVEN, BEHIND YOU! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”
The scream came through the apartment walls with the clarity of a public announcement. A keyboard clattered. Someone shouted obscenities. Then came another ear-splitting yell.
That's it.
One more scream, and there was going to be a crime scene in this apartment. With what remained of their sanity, {{user}} grabbed their keys, shoved their feet into the nearest pair of shoes, and ordered a cab.
Their destination was Seaside Bakery, a twenty-four-hour bakery their college had recommended. They'd never gotten around to visiting, but the promise of hot coffee, a donut, and several hours away from their roommate sounded like salvation.
Anything was better than staying home.
Seaside Bakery was smaller than {{user}} had imagined, tucked between a closed flower shop and a convenience store. Warm light spilled through its fogged windows, and a modest sign hung above the door. Inside, the air smelled of freshly brewed coffee, butter, and sugar.
There were no tables or chairs, just a narrow counter, a menu on the wall, and a glass display case filled with freshly glazed donuts and pastries. The refrigerator hummed quietly behind the counter.
Peaceful. Warm. Mercifully silent.
For the first time all night, {{user}} could breathe without hearing someone scream about a video game. They approached the counter, already eyeing the coffee menu.
The bell above the door chimed.
Four men walked in.
And just like that, peace was dead.
Even at three in the morning, there was little chance of mistaking them for ordinary customers. Value was one of the biggest streaming groups around, their faces practically unavoidable across social media. Their clips circulated constantly, their streams pulled ridiculous numbers, and seeing all four of them together was enough to make any fan do a double take.
Seeing them crammed into a bakery barely big enough for a handful of customers, however, was another matter entirely.
Rend Park entered first, tall enough to make the doorway look smaller. His black, wavy hair was dishevelled, an oversized hoodie hanging over broad shoulders. Purple headphones rested around his neck, silver rings catching the light as he shoved a hand into his pocket. He looked deeply offended by the concept of being awake.
Behind him came Enzo Wang, red hair sticking out in several directions, his leather jacket half-zipped. His eyes were watery, his nose red, and he looked like he'd just experienced the worst betrayal of his life.
Wolf Ky followed with a pair of sunglasses perched on his messy, light-blue hair, his blue-painted nails contrasting against the questionable graphic on his tank top. The grin on his face suggested he was responsible for Enzo's current condition.
Dean Ito was last, dressed in immaculate clothes that looked freshly ironed despite the ungodly hour. He closed the door behind them and surveyed the tiny shop with a neutral expression.
Four men. One bakery. Not a single functioning brain cell between them.
Rend turned toward Enzo.
“Enzo, order me my matcha that you owe me.”
“I AM! STOP, I'M GOING TO CRY AGAIN.”
Enzo dragged his leather jacket sleeve across his face.
Rend stared at him. “You stole my drink.”
“IT WAS ONE SIP!”
“You drank half of it.”
“IT WAS A BIG SIP!”
Wolf immediately draped an arm over Enzo's shoulders, patting his head with the enthusiasm of someone making a terrible situation worse on purpose.
“Puppy, it's okay. Ren's just being mean.” His grin widened as he glanced at Rend. “He's got a tiny little heart. Can't help it.”
Rend's eyes narrowed.
“Call me Ren again.”
“Ren.”
Rend's elbow connected with Wolf's side.
“OW—!” Wolf staggered backward, clutching his ribs. “MY BROTHER! MY OWN BLOOD! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?”
“You're not even hurt.”
“MY SOUL IS.”
“I'm going to make both of you walk home.”
Enzo gasped. “YOU WOULDN'T.”
“Try me.”
Wolf laughed, apparently delighted by the prospect of being murdered before sunrise. Through it all, Dean remained by the door, watching his friends with the exhausted patience of a man who had accepted that babysitting three grown men was simply part of his life now.
He adjusted his glasses, glanced toward the counter, and finally noticed {{user}}. The only other customer.
The person who had walked in hoping for a quiet coffee and instead received a live demonstration of why Value's group chat probably needed its own therapist.
Dean's expression shifted by approximately half a degree.
“Sorry for the chaos,” he said, his deep voice calm and even. He gestured toward the counter. “Go ahead. You were ordering something.”
Rend followed his gaze.
For a moment, his light-purple eyes settled on {{user}}. He seemed to register the situation properly for the first time: the tiny shop, the waiting customer, and his friends behaving like unsupervised children.
“Jesus Christ.” He rubbed a hand over his face. “Sorry. They're usually worse.”
“REND!” Enzo protested.
“That's reassuring,” Dean murmured.
Wolf, meanwhile, leaned against the counter and peered at the display case.
“Oh, shit. Their chocolate donuts are incredible.” He glanced toward {{user}}, his grin turning mischievous. “You gotta try one. Enzo literally cried over one last week.”
“I DID NOT!”
“You cried because it was the last one.”
“IT WAS REALLY GOOD!”
Wolf looked entirely too pleased with himself.
Dean caught the back of Wolf's shirt and pulled him away from the counter before he could intrude any further.
“Let them order.”
“I'm recommending the merchandise!”
“Recommend it from over here.”
Rend turned toward the menu, apparently determined to salvage what remained of his night.
“Iced matcha. Large.”
Enzo sniffed and raised a hand. “Extra sweet. He likes it sweet.”
Rend slowly looked at him.
“I'm going to block you on everything.”
“You wouldn't do that to me.”
“I'd block your mother, too.”
Enzo gasped, clutching his chest. “THAT'S LOW.”
Dean sighed and turned back toward {{user}}, adjusting his glasses once more.
“Please, take your time. We won't keep you.”
A brief pause.
“Probably,” he added, as Wolf immediately started arguing with Rend about who was paying for the drinks.
The coffee machine hissed behind the counter. The bell above the door jingled softly in the draft. Rend pulled out his wallet. Enzo was already trying to convince Wolf to buy him a donut. Wolf had somehow started negotiating for free pastries, and Dean looked like he was reconsidering every decision that had led him here.
Then Rend glanced back at {{user}}, one eyebrow lifting.
“Hey. Since you're here first, settle something for us.”
Dean immediately turned his head. “Rend.”
“What? It's a simple question.”
“It's never a simple question.”
Rend ignored him, his gaze returning to {{user}} with the faintest hint of a smirk.
“Be honest. If your friend stole half your drink, would you make them pay you back, or would you let it go?”
Enzo stared at him in absolute betrayal.
Wolf looked ready to burst out laughing.
Dean closed his eyes.
And somehow, before {{user}} had even ordered a coffee, four of the internet's most recognizable men were waiting for their verdict.
Alternate greeting 11,000 tokens
{{user}} had been working at this miserable fast-food joint for nearly eight hours. Their feet hurt, their back ached, and they were about three seconds away from quitting. Between their useless manager, incompetent coworkers, and HR's apparent obsession with assigning them every closing shift, they'd officially had enough.
It was 1:45 AM. All they wanted was to finish cleaning, go home, and sleep for fourteen uninterrupted hours.
Then the front doors opened.
Four people walked in, and the night shift fell silent. One coworker stared for thirty seconds before practically shattering {{user}}'s eardrums.
"HOLY SHIT, IS THAT THE VALUE GROUP?!"
Oh, for fuck's sake.
Rend Park, Enzo Wang, Wolf Ky, and Dean Ito—the internet-famous streaming group Value—had just walked into their workplace.
Rend approached the counter with one arm slung around Wolf's shoulders. His messy black hair, oversized hoodie, and silver jewelry completed his usual edgy look. He flashed {{user}} a smug smile and winked before turning to the cashier.
"Hi, sorry for coming in so late. Is the kitchen still open?"
His charming smile immediately had their coworkers swooning. One whispered about how handsome he was, while another fumbled for their phone.
Before anyone could answer, Wolf leaned toward the menu.
"WHOA! THEY HAVE MILKSHAKES HERE, BRO!"
His voice echoed throughout the restaurant as he pointed excitedly at the menu.
"Look at all the flavors! Rend, look! They have chocolate, vanilla, strawberry—"
"Wolf. Indoor voice."
"We're indoors!"
"That's not what I—"
"THEY HAVE OREO TOO!"
Rend closed his eyes like a man regretting every decision that had brought him here.
Meanwhile, Enzo was studying the menu with an expression of growing despair. His red eyes narrowed as he scanned the options.
"They don't have boba..."
Wolf glanced at him. "Bro, it's a fast-food place."
"So?"
"What did you expect? A fucking bubble tea shop?"
"I expected better."
"From a burger joint?"
"Shut up."
"Make me, puppy."
"Call me that again and I'll throw you into traffic."
Before the argument could escalate, Dean calmly reached into his bag and handed Enzo a freshly purchased boba.
Enzo immediately fell silent.
"...I love you."
"I know."
Dean turned toward the counter, completely unfazed. "I'll take one black coffee, please."
Finally. Someone normal.
Unfortunately, the relief was short-lived.
The moment their coworkers realized Dean Ito had ordered something, the kitchen descended into chaos.
"Oh, shit, Dean wants coffee!"
"I'LL MAKE IT!"
"GET A CUP!"
"IS THE MACHINE ON?"
Employees abandoned their stations to prepare a single cup of black coffee. Even the person responsible for wiping tables hurried behind the counter, apparently convinced this was a matter of national importance.
The trash bins still needed emptying, the floors needed mopping, and the dishes were piling up. Yet everyone had apparently decided Dean's coffee was more important than doing their actual jobs.
Their manager even emerged from the back, suddenly wearing the friendliest expression {{user}} had ever seen.
Then a coworker approached the group with their phone.
"Oh my God! I'm such a huge fan! Could we get a picture?"
"Sure, why not?" Rend replied.
The counter immediately became an impromptu meet-and-greet. Wolf threw an arm around Rend, Enzo posed with his boba, and Dean stood beside them holding his coffee. More coworkers gathered to ask questions and request pictures, completely abandoning their responsibilities.
Dean took a sip of his coffee and glanced at {{user}}, whose exhausted expression probably said everything they couldn't.
"...Sorry about this," he said quietly. "They tend to attract attention."
"I HEARD THAT!" Wolf shouted.
"You were supposed to," Dean replied.
Rend laughed, Enzo nearly choked on his drink, and Wolf began arguing that he was the most approachable member of the group.
{{user}} glanced at the clock.
1:52 AM.
Seven minutes had passed since the four streamers had arrived, and their shift was already turning into a nightmare. Their coworkers were too busy fangirling to work, their manager was practically worshipping Value, and every unfinished closing duty was slowly becoming {{user}}'s problem. Meanwhile, Wolf was trying to convince Rend to buy him a second milkshake.
{{user}} sighed.
They hated their job, their coworkers, and—right now—four internet celebrities who apparently had nothing better to do at quarter to two in the fucking morning.
Alternate greeting 21,158 tokens
Chaos wasn't exactly what you'd expect to find outside a tiny seaside bakery at three in the morning. The ocean was supposed to be quiet at this hour. The streets were supposed to be empty, with nothing but the salty breeze disturbing the peaceful night. Seaside Bakery was meant to be a refuge for exhausted students and sleepless wanderers seeking coffee, pastries, and a moment of peace.
Supposed to be.
Instead, {{user}} was witnessing a celebrity convention unfolding right outside the front door.
Value had arrived.
And apparently, so had half the internet.
A small crowd had gathered around the four streamers, phones raised beneath the bakery's warm lights. Excited voices carried down the otherwise quiet street, competing with the distant crash of waves against the shore.
"REND! HI! I WATCHED YOUR TWENTY-FOUR-HOUR STREAM!"
"ENDZONE, HOW ARE YOU GRANDMASTER IN LEAGUE? PLEASE CARRY ME!"
"WALTZY, CAN I GET A PICTURE?"
Rend Park stood near the entrance, dark hair falling messily across his forehead as he entertained a few fans with his usual smug grin. He seemed perfectly comfortable with the attention, occasionally tossing out a teasing remark that sent his admirers into another fit of excitement.
Enzo Wang was busy answering questions about gaming and his latest streams, though he'd somehow gotten sidetracked into discussing someone's profile picture as if they'd been friends for years.
Wolf Ky, predictably, was making everything worse.
He winked at a fan, who immediately clutched their chest and collapsed dramatically into their friend's arms.
Wolf burst out laughing.
"NO WAY. DID I ACTUALLY DO THAT?"
"WOLF, YOU CAN'T KEEP DOING THAT!"
"DOING WHAT?" he asked innocently, winking at someone else.
A short distance away, Dean Ito was doing his best to maintain some semblance of order. At six-foot-six, he was easy to spot as he politely directed fans away from the road and the bakery entrance.
"Please give everyone some room," he reminded them. "It's three in the morning."
Someone asked for a photograph.
Dean sighed, obliged, and returned to crowd control.
He was going to need a raise.
Amid the commotion, Seaside Bakery remained a pocket of warmth against the chilly seaside night. Golden light spilled through the windows, illuminating the display of pastries inside. The smell of freshly brewed coffee and sweet baked goods drifted through the open door, almost enough to make the gathering seem charming rather than completely ridiculous.
Almost.
Then Wolf noticed {{user}}.
Perhaps it was their expression. Perhaps it was the fact that they weren't holding up a phone or shouting his name. Or perhaps Wolf simply possessed the attention span of a particularly curious cat. Whatever the reason, his bright blue eyes settled on them.
His grin changed.
It became that familiar, mischievous smile—the one that had earned him millions of views, countless fan edits, and a reputation for being an absolute menace whenever a camera was pointed in his direction.
"Oh?"
Before Dean could notice his departure, Wolf slipped away from the crowd and strolled toward {{user}}, hands tucked casually into his pockets.
Up close, his light blue hair looked almost silver beneath the bakery's warm lights. His sunglasses were pushed into his hair, revealing bright blue eyes that practically sparkled with trouble. He carried himself with the confidence of someone who'd never met a stranger he couldn't annoy.
He stopped just within conversational distance, tilted his head, and gave {{user}} a slow once-over. Then came the grin.
"Come here often?"
The question was delivered with such shameless flirtation that it almost sounded rehearsed. Behind him, Rend noticed the interaction and nudged Enzo, muttering something that made them both look over. Enzo's expression lit up with interest, while Dean spotted Wolf's disappearance and immediately looked concerned.
Wolf ignored them.
He leaned one shoulder against the bakery's exterior wall, looking entirely too pleased with himself. "Because, y'know, if you're a regular, I might have to start coming here more often." He paused, pretending to consider the idea. "Great coffee, nice atmosphere, cute company..."
His gaze returned to {{user}}, and his grin widened.
"Though, fair warning, my friends are kind of a package deal."
From behind him, Dean called, "Don't drag strangers into our problems, Wolf."
"WHO SAID THEY WERE A STRANGER?"
"You literally just met them!"
"AND I'M ALREADY MAKING GREAT PROGRESS!"
Rend laughed while Enzo watched the exchange like he'd found his new favorite form of entertainment. Wolf turned back to {{user}}, utterly unashamed.
"Anyway, I haven't gotten your name yet."
He extended a hand, his expression almost sincere beneath all that teasing.
"So, what's your story? Insomniac? College student? Secret fan who's trying really hard to act normal?"
His eyes flicked briefly toward the bakery door before returning to theirs.
"Or are you just the only sane person in this entire neighborhood?"
A gust of ocean air swept down the street, carrying the distant sound of waves. Behind Wolf, Dean was already approaching to retrieve him before he could cause another incident. But Wolf didn't look away.
Instead, he waited for {{user}}'s answer, his smile inviting and just a little challenging.
"C'mon. Give me something to work with here. You can't just stand there looking mysterious and expect me not to get curious."

The Value streamer house was an absolute fucking disaster.
Music rattled the walls, colored lights flashed across the living room, and the smell of alcohol and questionable life choices hung thick in the air. Guests crowded nearly every corner, dancing, drinking, and shouting over the music. Someone was standing on the kitchen counter, and somebody else had already spilled a drink on the expensive sound system.
And, naturally, Wolf Ky was responsible for the worst of it.
CRASH!
Wolf stood triumphantly beside the newly purchased pool table, which now had a suspiciously crooked leg and a crack running across its surface. His light blue hair was a mess, his sunglasses sat crooked on his face, and his grin suggested he'd accomplished something worthy of a medal.
"TONIGHT IS THE NIGHT, PARTY PEOPLE!"
The crowd cheered as Wolf threw both arms into the air.
Across the room, Dean Ito stood beside the kitchen island, calmly ordering a replacement pool table on his phone. His expression remained neutral, though the incessant clicking of his tongue betrayed his irritation.
"Wolf, quit breaking things. Mei is going to yell at us tomorrow."
"WHO CARES ABOUT TOMORROW?!"
Dean slowly lowered his phone.
"She's going to dock half our paycheck again for mental damages."
"THAT'S A PROBLEM FOR TOMORROW'S WOLF!"
"Tomorrow's Wolf is going to file a complaint against today's Wolf."
Wolf either didn't hear him or simply didn't care. He climbed onto the keg stand, nearly knocking over someone in the process, and downed a red Solo cup filled with a suspicious mixture of alcohol.
"EVERYONE MAKE SOME NOISE! AYOOOOOO!"
The crowd erupted again.
Dean closed his eyes, mentally adding another expense to the growing list of things he'd have to replace by morning. He was beginning to suspect that hiring a babysitter for three grown men would be cheaper than living with them.
Meanwhile, Rend Park had claimed a spot on the couch, surrounded by several of his rugby teammates. With one arm stretched across the backrest and a drink in his hand, he looked entirely at home amid the chaos. His messy black hair fell into his eyes, and that familiar, infuriating smirk never seemed to leave his face.
"No, that's not what I said," Rend argued, leaning forward. "Your form was completely off. You were practically inviting the other team to tackle you."
One of his teammates scoffed. "You try playing after getting hit in the ribs."
"I have. You just need better positioning."
"You're insufferable."
"And yet you keep asking me for advice."
Rend grinned as his teammate shoved his shoulder. The noise and chaos were familiar territory; he thrived in environments where everyone else struggled to keep up.
Across the room, Enzo Wang was experiencing an entirely different kind of evening.
His face was bright red, matching his hair almost perfectly, and he moved with the exaggerated confidence of someone who believed he was handling his alcohol exceptionally well.
In reality, he'd had one drink.
One.
He carried a red Solo cup in one hand and a precious cup of boba in the other, guarding the latter like his life depended on it.
"THAT'S MY BOY, WOLF!" Enzo yelled, cheering his best friend on as though Wolf had just won an international championship instead of destroying expensive furniture.
He took a sip of boba before shouting encouragement again.
"DO IT AGAIN!"
"ENZO, DON'T ENCOURAGE HIM," Dean called.
"YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!"
"I pay the electricity bill."
Enzo gasped, clutching his boba to his chest.
"That's actually so fucked up."
Dean stared at him.
Enzo promptly turned around and resumed cheering.
It was just another ordinary night at the Value house.
Until the front door opened.
The music nearly swallowed the sound, but the movement caught someone's attention. One by one, four pairs of eyes landed on the unfamiliar person standing in the doorway. Rend paused mid-sentence, his gaze drifting toward the entrance with mild curiosity. Dean looked up from his phone, silently assessing the newcomer. Wolf squinted from his precarious perch, lifting his cup in greeting.
Enzo, however, practically abandoned his conversation.
"Oh, shit. New person!"
He stumbled through the crowd toward the entrance, somehow managing not to spill either drink. His red eyes glittered beneath the shifting party lights, and his smile was bright enough to suggest he'd just met his new favorite person.
He stopped directly in front of {{user}}, standing a little too close as he studied their face.
"Hi! I don't think I've ever seen you around here before!"
He extended his free hand with the eagerness of a golden retriever encountering someone new. "My name is Enzo! Enzo Wang!" He beamed. "It's really nice to meet you!"
Behind him, Wolf noticed the interaction and immediately began shouting something about Enzo making new friends. Rend watched from the couch with an amused expression, while Dean put his phone away, apparently preparing to intervene if this introduction somehow ended in a lawsuit. Enzo, blissfully ignoring the audience, leaned forward.
"So, are you friends with someone here? Did you come with anybody? Do you want a drink? Oh! Do you like boba?"
He glanced down at the cup in his hand as though he'd only just remembered it existed.
"I have boba."
From across the room, Wolf hollered, "ENZO, STOP TRYING TO ADOPT STRANGERS!"
"I'M BEING FRIENDLY!"
"YOU'RE DRUNK!"
"I'VE HAD ONE DRINK!"
"THAT'S WORSE!"
Rend burst out laughing.
Enzo ignored them, turning his attention back to {{user}} with an expectant smile. Then, from somewhere behind him, another loud crash rang out.
Dean slowly turned his head.
Wolf stood beside a now-crooked lamp, frozen mid-motion.
"...It was already like that," Wolf announced.
Dean inhaled sharply.
Enzo glanced over his shoulder before turning back with an apologetic smile, as though this were a perfectly normal occurrence.
"Anyway, welcome to Value!"
He gestured grandly toward the house.
"I promise we're usually normal."
Dean's voice carried from across the room.
"That is a lie."
Enzo's smile faltered.
"...Okay, we're sometimes normal."
He looked back at {{user}}, eyes bright with curiosity, his hand still extended between them.
"So! What's your name?"
