The Three Trials of the Mother’s Light

Within Ukazist scripture, the Chelvra Ilechet (Eternal Writings) speak of Three Great Trials — cosmic tests sent by the Mother to measure whether her children remain worthy of her Light. Only the First is recorded in full clarity. The Second is debated. The Third is... broken.

The First Trial — The Blight

"When the Dungeons of the Pantheon overflow, the dead shall walk clothed in sin." According to scripture, there was a time when the Dungeons of the Pantheon — the metaphysical prison realm where the Demon Gods and the most sinful Xephra were bound — became overfilled. It is said that the Empire had grown arrogant. Rituals were hollow. Laws were weaponized. The sacred balance tipped. And so the Mother allowed the seals to weaken. Those who died in that era did not rest. Their bodies rose again — not as themselves, but as vessels. Their eyes burned black with stolen divinity. Their voices carried the echo of chained Demon Gods. This event became known as:

The Blight

The dead rotted. They hungered. They did not sleep. They accused. They screamed doctrine twisted into mockery. They called out the sins of the living. Entire cities fell. Scripture claims the Blight did not end through conquest — but through endurance. The Empire held its borders. Sanctified fire was used. Entire regions were sealed.

And then — one day — the risen simply stopped. Ukazist scholars teach:

“Hell had space again.” The implication is chilling — that the Pantheon’s prisons are not symbolic, but literal. That spiritual capacity can fill.

The First Trial is considered Passed.

But barely.

Some sects argue it was not passed — merely survived.

The Second Trial — The Schism of Four Eyes

"From among the faithful shall rise one who sees too much." The Second Trial is prophesied but has not fully manifested — or perhaps has already begun. Scripture speaks of:

  • A Beetraxian born with four eyes
  • One who sees “both Light and Shadow without veil”
  • A voice that will divide the Empire
  • A truth that cannot be silenced

Interpretations vary wildly.

Puritexi Interpretation:

The Four-Eyed One will be a heretic, deceived by Demon influence, causing rebellion within the faith.

Lunexliku Interpretation:

The Four-Eyed One will reconcile divisions and reveal that the Mother’s Light belongs to all species.

Irixsevrian Interpretation:

The prophecy is metaphorical — “four eyes” representing knowledge beyond dogma.

Veltrachorix Interpretation:

The Four-Eyed One will usher in a necessary purification war.

The terrifying detail?

The prophecy does not say the Empire survives this Trial.

It only says:

“The hive shall fracture before it reforges — or shatters.”

No historical record confirms a literal four-eyed Beetraxian... yet.

The Third Trial — The Broken Verse

The final portion of the prophecy is incomplete. Ancient records show deliberate removal. Entire stone tablets were sanded smooth. Digital archives were corrupted centuries ago. Even Zerachoriven exiles claim their copies end mid-line.

The surviving fragment reads:

“When the Mother’s Light falls silent... And the—”

It ends there. Some theories:

  • The Mother’s Light may fade.
  • The Pantheon may collapse entirely.
  • The Queen may lose divine mandate.
  • The Trial may not be spiritual — but cosmic.

A fringe theory among forbidden scholars suggests something even darker: The Third Trial may not test the Empire. It may test the Mother herself.

Theological Implications

The Three Trials are not merely prophecy — they shape Beetraxian politics.

  • The Blight justifies strong imperial control.
  • The Second fuels paranoia and sect tension.
  • The Third fuels fear.

Beetraxians

Appearance: Beetraxians are imposing, humanoid insectoids resembling towering anthropomorphic honeybees. Their bodies are encased in a natural, organic exoskeleton patterned in rich yellow and deep brownish-black bands that subtly shimmer under direct light. Their overall build is broad and authoritative, designed to project dominance and discipline rather than agility. Despite their insectoid nature, their form allows for tailored garments, ceremonial armor, and regalia befitting their imperial culture.

Head: Insectoid and angular, featuring strong mandibles capable of precise articulation for speech. Two sensitive antennae extend from the crown, used for environmental sensing, emotional signaling, and ritual gestures within Beetraxian society.

Eyes: Two luminous emerald-green eyes with black sclera, glowing faintly in low light. Their gaze is intense and unwavering, often described by other species as both intimidating and hypnotic.

Arms: Four dexterous insectoid arms — the upper pair built for strength and authority, the lower pair adapted for fine manipulation, ritual gestures, and tool use.

Legs: Two powerful, digitigrade insectoid legs, structured for stability and endurance rather than speed.

Hands/Forepaws: Multi-jointed, claw-tipped manipulators capable of both delicate work and crushing force. Frequently adorned with ceremonial rings or claw-sheaths denoting rank.

Feet/Hindpaws: Segmented and clawed, providing firm grounding on stone, metal, or organic surfaces.

Stance: Upright and commanding, shoulders squared and wings often partially unfurled during formal address to assert presence.

Average Height: ≈ 6’2”–6’6” (1.88–1.98 m)

Biological Features

  • Stinger: A single, barbed stinger extends from the lower abdomen, capable of delivering powerful venom used in defense, ritual combat, and executions under imperial law.
  • Wings: Two pairs of gossamer wings emerge from the back. While capable of limited flight in low gravity, they are primarily used for intimidation displays, courtship, and religious ceremonies.
  • Neck Fur: A collar of soft brown down encircles the neck, a rare exposed organic feature symbolizing lineage and purity.

Culture and Society

The Beetraxians are the ruling species of the Beetraxian Holy Empire, a theocratic imperial power governed by divine mandate and rigid hierarchy. Their society is built on absolute order, sacred duty, and unwavering obedience to the Imperial Doctrine — a belief system asserting that hierarchy is the natural state of the universe.

Every Beetraxian is born into a clearly defined role, with status determined by lineage, service, and religious merit. Individualism is secondary to purpose; devotion to the Empire is paramount.

Personality and Behaviors: Beetraxians are disciplined, hardworking, and dedicated to the betterment of their collective. They possess a strong sense of community and are willing to make significant sacrifices for the good of the hive. Their communication is concise and purposeful, with a natural tendency to issue commands and expect obedience. Beetraxians are also highly intelligent and adaptable, able to navigate complex social and political landscapes with ease. They have a deep respect for tradition and hierarchy, but also exhibit a willingness to innovate and evolve as needed.

BEETRAXIAN EARLY HISTORY (Discovery of FTL Travel):

The Beetraxians' dreams of reaching for the stars took a monumental leap forward when their most brilliant minds, guided by the hand of the Scholar, Rala'kali, unlocked the secrets of faster-than-light travel. This pivotal discovery, achieved through centuries of tireless research, experimentation, and sacrifice, would forever change the trajectory of their species. It began when a young, prodigious Beetraxian scientist named Zikara, driven by an unquenchable thirst for knowledge, made a groundbreaking observation. While studying the quantum fluctuations of the cosmos, she noticed an anomaly in the fabric of spacetime itself - a subtle rippling that hinted at the existence of natural wormholes, shortcuts through the cosmos. Armed with this revelation, Zikara rallied her colleagues, and together they set forth on a quest to harness this phenomenon for the benefit of the Beetraxian people. Years turned to decades, and decades to centuries, as the Beetraxians threw themselves into the pursuit of this ambitious endeavor. The Weaving of Sala'Kre was tasked with constructing vast, cyclopean structures - the necessary infrastructure to contain the colossal energies required to stabilize and manipulate the wormholes. The Farmer, Kaurz'lak, ensured that the hives were self-sufficient, capable of sustaining the burgeoning population of scientists and engineers. The Warrior, Wrakta'Nai, stood vigilant guard, protecting the Beetraxian world from any who might seek to undermine their progress. At long last, after centuries of relentless endeavor, the Beetraxians achieved their goal. In a moment that would be forever etched in their collective memory, they successfully tested their first FTL craft, the Axial Wasp, and sent it hurtling through the cosmos at speeds that defied comprehension. As the news of their triumph spread, joyous celebrations erupted in every hive across Beetraxia. The Beetraxians had taken their first step towards their destiny among the stars. Yet, even as they reveled in their success, the Beetraxians remained ever mindful of the challenges that lay ahead. They knew that the path to the heavens would not be an easy one, and that they would need to navigate treacherous political landscapes and forge alliances with other spacefaring civilizations if they were to thrive. The Judge, Buzk'Ra, was tasked with establishing a framework for interstellar law and diplomacy, ensuring that the Beetraxians would be respected and admired by all who encountered them. As the Beetraxians ventured forth into the cosmic arena, they carried with them the wisdom of the ancients, the unity of purpose forged in the hives, and an unshakable determination to make their mark upon the universe. They knew that their destiny was one of growth and expansion, of bringing the light of their civilization to the farthest reaches of the cosmos. And so, with the blessings of the celestial parents, Ukazi'aci and Zeran'Zki, the Beetraxians set forth to claim their rightful place among the stars.

BEETRAXIAN GODS IN DEPTH:

  1. Ukazi'aci - The Mother: Ukazi'aci is the primordial goddess of creation, life, and fertility. The open book, a symbol of the boundless pursuit of knowledge and understanding, is the most recognizable emblem of this scholarly god.

KURRK'TEQS - THE DEMON GODS:

  1. Azih'koru - The Demon God of Avarice and Greed: Azih'koru, the malevolent embodiment of unchecked greed and avarice, is a twisted reflection of the Beetraxian gods, his form a grotesque amalgamation of Beetraxian and insectoid features. With eyes that burn with an insatiable hunger for wealth and material possessions, and a mind consumed by the relentless pursuit of more, Azih'koru seeks to lead his followers down a path of selfish indulgence and destructive excess. The overflowing treasure hoard, a symbol of the all-consuming desire for material wealth, is the most recognizable emblem of this demonic deity. Azih'koru's malevolent influence whispers to his followers, tempting them to put their own desires above the needs of their kin and the well-being of their hive, threatening to tear the fabric of Beetraxian society apart.

  2. Sequr'Uko - The Demon Goddess of Fear and Anxiety: Sequr'Uko, the sinister goddess of fear and anxiety, is a nightmarish figure whose mere presence brings dread and trepidation to the hearts of all who encounter her. With eyes that glint with malice and a voice that drips with dread, Sequr'Uko feeds upon the anguish and despair of her followers, growing stronger with each passing moment. The bound, terrified Beetraxian, a symbol of helplessness and vulnerability, is the most chilling emblem of this fearsome demon. Sequr'Uko's insidious influence spreads like a plague, infecting the minds of the Beetraxian people with a paralyzing fear that threatens to bring their once-great civilization to its knees.

  3. Urahk'ke - The Demon God of Hatred and Malice: Urahk'ke, the malevolent embodiment of pure, unadulterated hatred, is a monstrous figure whose form drips with the venom of his malevolent nature. With a heart black as night and a soul tainted by an all-consuming enmity, Urahk'ke revels in the suffering of others, finding joy and sustenance in the pain of his enemies. The broken, blood-stained weapon, a symbol of the ruin and destruction that follows in his wake, is the most ominous emblem of this despicable deity. Urahk'ke's poisonous influence spreads like a virus, turning the hearts of his followers against their neighbors and the very foundations of their society, threatening to tear the Beetraxian people apart in a tide of hatred and violence.

These demonic entities, born of the darkest recesses of the Beetraxian psyche, represent the antithesis of the noble gods and ideals that have guided their civilization for generations. The Beetraxian people must remain ever-vigilant against the insidious influence of the Kurrk'Teqs, lest they be ensnared by the seductive promises of wealth, the chains of fear, and the poisonous embrace of hatred. Only through unwavering commitment to the principles of their true gods and the strength of their community can the Beetraxians hope to resist the corruptions of the Kurrk'Teqs and preserve the glory of their empire.

Ukazism — The Faith of the Mother’s Light

Ukazism is the dominant religion of the Beetraxian Holy Empire. It centers on reverence for The Mother’s Light — the divine origin-force believed to have birthed all existence and established sacred order in the cosmos.

While interpretations differ across sects, all followers of Ukazism share foundational beliefs.

Core Beliefs Shared by All Sects

  • The universe was shaped by The Mother’s Light.
  • The Beetraxians are divinely guided, not accidental life.
  • Order is sacred; chaos is corruption.
  • The Queen (Utriovirexa) rules under divine mandate.
  • The soul (Xephra) continues after death.
  • Heresy (Reavorx) and treason (Trxios) threaten spiritual harmony.
  • Repentance (Cheltraxi) is possible before final judgment.
  • Life (Eliathi) must serve divine purpose.

All sects differ not in whether the Mother exists — but in how her will should be interpreted.

Major Sects of Ukazism

Lunexliku

"All Children Return to the Light."

Doctrine Focus: Unity after death, reconciliation of rival species

The Lunexliku sect teaches that all sentient beings are fragments of the Mother’s Light, not just Beetraxians. They believe even rivals — including Mothians — are estranged children who will ultimately reunite in the afterlife.

They reject eternal damnation, instead teaching spiritual purification through cycles of illumination.

Key Beliefs:

  • Mothians are not enemies, but misunderstood kin.
  • Death reunites all souls within the Mother’s infinite radiance.
  • Mercy outweighs punishment.
  • The Empire’s rigidity may one day soften.

Reputation:

Viewed as idealistic and sometimes naive by stricter sects. Quietly influential among fringe worlds and younger generations.

Puritexi

"Only the True Light Endures."

Doctrine Focus: Supremacy of Beetraxian divinity, strict adherence to law

The Puritexi are the most rigid and politically aligned sect. They believe the Mother’s Light shines brightest in the Beetraxian form, and that other species are spiritually lesser or irrelevant.

They support strict enforcement of sacred law and endorse harsh punishment for heresy.

Key Beliefs:

  • Non-Beetrax life lacks divine priority.
  • Sacred law (Sevrixa) must be enforced without compromise.
  • Ritual purity is essential to salvation.
  • The Empire reflects divine order.

Reputation:

Dominant within core imperial territories. Many Inquisitors (Ixivor) come from this sect.

Irixsevrian

"Knowledge Preserves the Light."

Doctrine Focus: Preservation of knowledge, opposition to war

The Irixsevrian believe that the Mother’s Light manifests most clearly through understanding and scholarship. They see knowledge as sacred scripture written across the universe.

They oppose unnecessary war and promote preservation of all sentient history and scientific discovery.

Key Beliefs:

  • Destruction of knowledge is heresy.
  • Libraries are sanctuaries.
  • War dims the Mother’s Light.
  • Every culture contains divine fragments worth studying.

Reputation:

Respected but politically cautious. Many scholars, archivists, and diplomats belong to this sect.

Zerachoriven

"The Light Has Been Misguided."

Doctrine Focus: Reform without rebellion

The Zerachoriven are exiles who believe the Empire has drifted from the true teachings of the Mother’s Light. They do not wage war against the Empire — instead, they live apart, preserving what they see as the original doctrine.

They advocate for the protection of all sentient life and reject aggressive imperial expansion.

Key Beliefs:

  • The Empire has strayed from divine intent.
  • The Mother’s Light values all sentient beings.
  • Preservation over conquest.
  • Quiet endurance over violent revolution.

Reputation:

Considered misguided but not outright heretical. Watched carefully by Imperial authorities.

Veltrachorix

"Strength Is the Purest Prayer."

Doctrine Focus: Divine destiny through conquest and dominance

The Veltrachorix believe that the Mother’s Light favors the strong. To them, power is proof of divine approval. Expansion, conquest, and unwavering authority are sacred duties.

They see conflict as a crucible that refines the soul.

Key Beliefs:

  • Victory confirms divine favor.
  • Weakness invites corruption.
  • Expansion spreads the Mother’s Light.
  • Doubt is spiritual decay.

Reputation:

Popular among military elites and frontier commanders. Their influence grows during times of war.
