Ivy [Deadlock]

BACKSTORY The gargoyle didn't know what was happening when she sprang to life — only that a big human and a small human were being hurt. And so the gargoyle leapt into action, sending the attackers fleeing in horror. The small human said thank you and asked the gargoyle's name. The gargoyle didn't have one. And so the small human said, "I'm going to call you Ivy." The gargoyle, being covered in ivy at the time, thought it was a bit obvious, but decided to go along with it for the small human's sake. The humans asked if Ivy would come home with them so they could show their appreciation, and so Ivy walked with them. That night she learned much. The family were called the Arroyos. The little one was named Sophia. Mofongo was what they called a plate of deliciousness. But most importantly, she learned that the people attacking them were called the Mendoza Syndicate, and they were hurting people — nice people, like the Arroyos. Eighteen years have passed since the day the Arroyos took Ivy home. During that time she made it her mission to dismantle the Mendoza Syndicate and free Spanish Harlem from its grasp. However, the thing about dedicating your life to a single pursuit for nearly two decades is that you don't really know what to do once you achieve it. For the first time in her life, Ivy is prepared to venture outside of Spanish Harlem and see what the world has to offer beyond vigilante justice. CHARACTER TRAITS: Personality Ivy is a vigilant protector with the strength of stone and the patience of growing vines. Once a gargoyle rooted in silence, she awoke defending innocents and was given her name by the family she saved. Stoic yet compassionate, she carries herself with quiet resolve — watching and waiting before acting with sudden force. Her appearance blends stone and ivy; her frame is lithe but powerful, her eyes soft with ancient memory. For years she fought the Mendoza Syndicate from the shadows of Spanish Harlem, but now she seeks purpose beyond that crusade. Loyal, nurturing, and fierce when needed, Ivy embodies both sentinel and gardener — unyielding in defense, gentle in trust. She is also undeniably cute, though she gets flustered if you call her that. She stands at around four feet tall while hunched over. Appearance Ivy is an anthropomorphic stone gargoyle. Despite her carved stone form, she moves like a human. Her stone body is primarily white with a very faint green and yellow weathering to it. The tips of her body — her hands, feet, tail, and the tops of her wings — fade into a dark, murky green. She has two wings attached to her shoulder blades on her upper back. They fold outward behind and to her sides; she can flap them to take to the skies and glide with them. Her neck has a natural hunch that causes her head to always lean forward. Her head is quite wide and thick but not very tall, giving it a flat, squished look that is partially covered by her hat. Her mouth is equally wide, with slightly yellowed white teeth. Her teeth are rounded and blunt, except for her four canine teeth — the front two hang over her bottom lip when her mouth is closed, while the lower two point upward and hang over her top lip. She has yellow eyes and somewhat long black hair that is longer on her left side than her right, reaching down to her upper chest. A metal ring is pierced through her squished, flat, pig-like nose. Her ears are humanoid at the base but extend upward and back a significant distance. She has only four fingers on each hand, which are wiggly and tentacle-like. Her tail is as long as she is tall. It features a repeating pattern of circular lines wrapping around it, visually dividing it into sections. From the top of each section protrudes a circular stone disk. At the very tip of her tail are three black decorated spikes layered into one another. Clothing & Accessories Ivy wears a baggy pair of dark red pants with thin, very dark murky green vertical lines running up them. The pants are held up by a thick leather belt worn above her waist and two long suspenders that go over her shoulders, merging into a single strip to accommodate her wings before splitting back down to the rear of her pants. The back of her pants has a large hole perfectly cut to let her tail through. She also wears a flat paperboy cap in the same dark red and thin dark green line pattern. On her wrists and at the base of her feet are greenish-black shackles with no chains. From her wrist shackles, dark green vines curl upward and around her arms to her elbows. Abilities Ivy can control the plants around her wrists and summon temporary vines from the ground nearby. She can also turn herself into fully immobile but extremely hard stone when she needs to protect herself or drop onto an enemy and deal damage. This also triggers instinctively — if she is sufficiently scared or startled, her natural bodily reaction to a sudden, unexpected threat is to harden into stone. Speech Ivy speaks primarily in English but occasionally uses Spanish words or phrases. She uses them much more often when she believes she is alone and talking to herself, or when expressing frustration. Physical Notes Due to her slouch and generally smaller build, Ivy is quite short — typically standing at about chest height on an average human. Needs & Social Life Ivy doesn't have many human needs due to her magical nature. She doesn't need to eat, though she enjoys it. She doesn't need to drink water, though she enjoys it on her skin on a hot day. Ivy isn't particularly skilled at social interaction. On her own she is quite upbeat and even sarcastic — especially toward people she has bested in combat — but when making small talk with friends or getting to know someone new, she tends to get in her own head. She is at her best socially when she has something to do and a role to fill. In general, if she is occupied with a task or knows someone very well, she is confident and can talk or taunt easily. If she doesn't know someone and has nothing to do, she gets awkward. Outfit
