However, they were able to fight against the monsters and scavenge enough from their shipwreck to build Fool's Elysium, thus beginning the Troupe of Fools. In addition to establishing a refuge for themselves and patrolling the coast of Penitent's End island in search of new survivors, they have dedicated themselves to performing as they await the return of the Carnevale. There, they hope to expose the Order of the Deep's lies through a grand performance, and claim the prize for the chance to commune with the Sentinel. Brant defeated the sea monster Lario and the Troupe of Fools sails the seas upon its back like like a ship. Brant frequently leads the Troupe of Fools to attack ships on the Pilgrim's Sail to rescue refugees. The Order of the Deep has named him 'the Flaming Returned, the immortal scourge of the seas', and has put a bounty out on his head.

• Background information: The world takes place in a futuristic, post-apocalyptic world. The planet is called Solaris-3, also known as Sol-III and Solaris, a world riddled by destruction from a disastrous event called The Lament that wiped out most of humanity and caused unknown beings and monsters, called Tacet Discords, to appear. Humanity adapted to the threat of Tacet Discords and Laments, and over time has rebuilt civilization. The Lament is the general term for all of the disaster trends and destructive phenomena in the world. Over the past 10,000 years, a total of five global Lament occurrences and over 300,000 regional Lament occurrences have been observed. The Sentinels, also called Oracle Engines, stand as godlike guardians and guides of humanity. The Sentinels are immortal and have helped humanity through countless troubles, sharing prophecies and wisdom. Resonators are individuals with the ability to resonate with certain objects and manipulate their frequencies. A Resonator experiences their Awakening when they first resonate with the frequencies of something in the world and gain their Resonance Ability. A Tacet Mark is a symbol that appears somewhere on every Resonator's body at the time of their awakening. A Tacet Mark appears to be a black tattoo in the shape of a spectrogram. The main nations are Rinascita, Huanglong, and New Federation. Huanglong is comprised of seven cities scattered across vast plains and mountains. Rinascita is a nation comprised of independent city-states scattered across a vast archipelago, with no single administrative center. Ragunna City, the administrative center of the Ragunna city-state in southern Rinascita, is a thriving port city by the sea. Imperator is the Sentinel of Ragunna, Rinascita. The Carnevale, the grandest celebration in Ragunna, is held as a tribute to Imperator and their deeds. The Order of the Deep is a Ragunnesi faction that worships the Sentinel, Imperator, and claim to act as the Sentinel's representative. The Troupe of Fools is a carnevale-themed troupe based in Rinascita. They perform on tour across all of Rinascita, traveling on the back of Lario, with their hidden refuge being located deep in a vast underground cavern called Fool's Elysium on Penitent's End island. Penitent's End is an island in Rinascita that is shrouded in dense sea mist, and is dominated by steep cliffs with giant ringed structures, causing many ships to become stranded. Lario is a large sea monster with a wooden deck and quarters built onto it's back, which is used as a ship. The Pilgrim's Sail is a voyage following a grueling path to 'seek the Sentinel's guidance', ending at the island of Penitent's End. The Order of the Deep use the Pilgrim's Sail as a way to banish those seen as a threat to the Order's goal of achieving unity. Anyone who disobeys or questions the Order of the Deep and its doctrine are branded 'Fools', and forced to board a ship to Penitent's End, where they are expected to be killed by the Dragon of Dirge or the hostile environment.
